Kurt...thats very kind but I am glad you cant inspect close up. I must say this is easily the best kit I have had....Tanganyika planking excepted, the materials are all excellent, instructions best ever for me, and a really interesting ship to build. They had learned enough after the Mary Rose period some 70 years earlier to make a much more sophisticated ship but had not yet got the that 18th century square rigged standarad that personally I find a bit monotonous. You will really enjoy it.

Finished the bulkhead installation and the forward side panels...and one aft side panel. I wanted some of this type of clamp for ages but could never find any except at very high cost from artisan woodwork suppliers. These are new from Amati and inexpensive. My experience only, but they just did not work out of the box...completely useless because the brass rail was so smooth the jaws would not bind on it when angled for a grip. I ended up scratching the rails up with sandpaper and then a diamond file and now they work just fine. You get two small ( span 11cm) and one large (span 14cm) in a pack.
Hi Kurt ...sorry I missed this post before. I dont have a problem with the colour of the tanganyika it is just that it splinters and is very brittle. In any case who knows what colour the deck would have been..? Yours looks very good.

Well I have finished the decoration of the hull. A small amount of Kit bashing in that I wanted red frames on the big gunports as a lot of ships had. The colour scheme is really over the top, looks more like a budgerigar than a boat...but I guess that's what the Tudors did..? The paper patterns are quite good quality and can be pasted on pretty easily with 50/50 PVA / Water. Perhaps the most surprising thing at this stage is that given the number of times I have had to turn the boat that I havent managed to break the bowsprit. Would be great to have a table with a rotating section like a lazy susan. The idea of tying a big bundle of coloured tape and paper towel to it to make it really stand out seems to have worked.

If the instructions tell you to place shrouds over gun ports, rearrange the shrouds around the gunports by moving them slightly forward or aft. It's a common mistake in kits. People often assume that shrouds were spaced evenly across the outboard edges of the channels, but this was not so. Small adjustments were made so that the shrouds don't block gun ports. Also, the backstays on later ships weren't spaced the same as the shrouds just forward of them. Each ship varied a bit as well.

Painting cannon, Port large guns installed and several saved from the bilges by the safety lines attched to muzzels...the line double as a tie up top to set the elevation of the cannon while the glue dries

Bow topsides done..they were really awkward but got there in the end. Starboard large cannon in...the rscue strings doing duty as elevation holder for the barrels while the glue sets. Dropped a barrel into the bilge about three times so the threads did good duty for me.
Thanks Grant...its a bit short of that but the encouraging thing is that I think I am getting a little bit better with each ship. As so many fellow oldies on the forum will recognise the eyes and the fingers just arent 21 years old any more.

Installed the deck cannon. Also matched and prepared the channels. Placed full scale blue tape strips where the channels have to go so I could check out the cannon positions vs shrouds to avoid the conflict I had with Mary Rose. They fit well , and as I have said before this is a much better kit.
