Hi Jim, I post everything from my phone and actually the pictures are taken in proper angle, but I will take care to only take horizontal pictires.
Yes, sounds if you upload photos from phones, the forum software doesn't know how to deal with photos taken horizontally, meaning it will not bother rotating it first.
Just a brief update on the carving.
After roughly grinding away material I now come the start carving by knive.
I start to make the carving on the big side so I can reduce the size step by step to get the proper size and proportions.

Simultanious to the work on the carvings I started on the head top rail. This is a lot of work to get it right, all the lines should be correct and this means a lot of cutting, filing, sanding, fitting etc etc. The connections are strengthened with dowels.
The rough lines are now ok, still some fine tuning to get the tip exactly in the middle. Then it will be sanding and I think I partly colour it black with ecoline ink before oiling it.

Excellent work Maarten.I think I know what you are thinking.The supplied boxwood pieces are great,but they may look even better if the back section was black leaving a carved boxwood outer face.In reality these pieces normally have the gilded carved ornamentation mounted on a main timber support.The support is invariably painted or natural wood.

After expanding my tools for the next build which will be a scratch build it was this weekend time to redo my workshop to properly fit the new tools.
For this I cleared a corner of my work shop where a large storage was situated and which now will be solely devoted to my model dockyard.
Starting with a clean slate.
And finally added some tools again.
It is not finished yet but hopefully towards the end of this week it will be finished.

Being far to busy with other things lately I finally booked some small progress.
My new workshop is finished except for an extra infrared panel as the winter is coming but that I will arrange in the coming week.
At Ikea I found a very simple box with 6 individual drawers which you can easily stack and at low cost. Ideal for storing all our smalltools etc. See at the right corner of my desk.

Also I am stil working on my carving of a putty holding the crown above the head of queen caroline. I posted the beginning of this carving some weeks ago but he is now slowly progressing.
Still not finished but the main shape becomes visible now.

Wow. I just discovered your extensive build log. On my second build. I also will second other comments that the toenailing is ingenious.

To fit the rails I added a boxwood extension in place of a simple pear strip as supplied in the kit.
On this boxwood extension the top rail is fitted with brass pins to strengthen the construction.
Dry fitting the parts in place.
After sanding and finishing the rail I color it with black ecoline ink, except for the carvings.
As the ink is taken into the poures of the wood I need to scrape of the edges and tops of the fine carvings to reveal the boxwood color again.
After cleaning and scraping is the carvings I add a layer of beewax followed by polishing.
And finally dry fitting on the model.
The finall result gives the idea of an ebony rail with a boxwood carving.
Some fine tuning is stil needed before final fitting.
