HMS Victory Build #776 1:98 scale

Hello, Dickiee44 There are many varieties available on the market. Do you make a decision on what kind of pedestals should represent your model? Here are some examples.

These are just a few...

Well it’s been along time since I’ve posted I’ve been busy with the bow and some of the parts , foremast, the mainmast as well. My biggest issue was that my wife wanted me to build a cover for the deck furniture so that’s been taking up most of my time the last several weeks but I’m almost complete with that, so next week or the week after I will start on mizzenmast mast. here are I’m photographs and a short video. Sorry can’t upload video for my iPhone. I’ll figure that out later. Master not permanently located yet.007AF2FD-B74C-4C6E-8032-2EEBD3DE6FFA.jpeg007AF2FD-B74C-4C6E-8032-2EEBD3DE6FFA.jpeg007AF2FD-B74C-4C6E-8032-2EEBD3DE6FFA.jpeg9F93E000-D2B9-4F5B-B64B-970B77B24E00.jpegD40082D6-71BE-465D-A739-20F257C17E28.jpeg947AEC44-0386-4D57-93E9-279497DA1446.jpegimage.jpgimage.jpg

Hi from Beaverton, Oregon. my name is Dick and am not new to modeling. I was in engineering and at that time we modeled pulp factories and computer chip factories in plastic and wood. Long before 3D acad. I’m also very proficient in autocad. So when I visited my relative in Boston I saw he had bought plans from mantua and tried to build a model. He did ok and so areas very poorly. So I asked him if I could have his plans and make one myself. He agreed and off I went. I put about 4 months into it and found out that I would have had to purchase all the fittings and it would cost a lot and I couldn’t afford at that time so I shelved it and here’s some pics I have. I’ll use it as a template for my mantua kit 776 my wife bought for me a few years ago. Now that I’m retired I started building this kit on March 20, 2020.
Hallo @Dickiiee44

That’s it for today hope you guys enjoy what I’ve been working on as much as I have been
Good afternoon Dikkie. Gone through your build and well done on your achievement thus far. Looking really good. Huge build this Victory is.
I’m amazed how different the 1:98 Mantua is to mine 1:78, in structural build and many of the details. Congratulations on all your scratch build parts and 3D printing parts etc. Always adds to the model when we add our own bits. Enjoy.
Cheers Grant

Good morning Dickie. The shrouds looks great. I see you put netting on the crowsnest - nice. Well done on getting 3 sheaves in your cathead on this scale Victory. I only managed two and struggled with that. Your detail in your build adds so much. Looking fantastic. Cheers Grant

Thanks for your comment. Made a template for ratlines out of very thick paper that I used for making paper airplane models while I lived in China. Talk about difficult. Paper airplanes were the worst. I never completed one. Anyway
Finished all lower shrouds and am now working ratlines. Finished lower shrouds ratlines on main mast up to fighting top deadeyes.4F5C40B7-6E74-4821-AC20-C4762C419C7C.jpeg0CB16CD5-3925-41A8-98E1-C680D55B5197.jpegF1DCB8A8-F01A-4E05-B393-3F986CD37190.jpeg

Took a few weeks of. Went to Florida for vaca. Now back to model.
All ratlines done on lower levels. Added shrouds on second level and startedView attachment 305198View attachment 305200View attachment 305201 ratlines on them.
Good morning. You must be “ratlined” out;). ...and more to go. I wonder how many knots are on the Victory. I see you went for black ratlines rather than hemp color. I am debating which color to go for. I do prefer the black look. Your Victory look great! I also enjoy the black mast bands the contrast is so cool. Cheers Grant

Thanks for your comments. I originally tried hemp color but wife and I didn’t like the look
. on the ratlines I’ve already done about 1600 clove hitches, only 5 more sections to finish but not that many as the higher you go the fewer shrouds that are there. As for black bands on masts I got that idea from Johns build and his Victory build. I used a lot of his ideas as he’s a perfectionist not me. It’s only for me and friends to see.
