HMS Victory Build #776 1:98 scale

Well worked stearn galley decorations and my impatience got me into trouble. I should have installed much later in the build. I was anxious to see them installed. These are resin printed parts and after installed I started working on bow section and did quite a bit of damage to them as my work bench is wide but not too deep. so had to remove and ordered new ones. Well life’s lessons is always teaching me lessons. Thankfully the company is replacing with new ones free of charge just paying shipping. And now I’ll continue work with bow section.

I want to use this space at this point to bring something to the attention of all of my shipmodeling friends. Ages of Sail out of California are great. Also, Caldercraft models are great. However, Caldercraft customer service is lousy to say the least. It took them 6 MONTHS to get the missing parts to me, and on top of that, not everything needed was included. The packing list was there, but not the parts. Because of this inexcusable customer service (covid is not responsible) I will never buy a Caldercraft ship model again--which is a shame--because their models are beautiful. But I will not put myself in a position where I have to rely upon them for customer service (my rating: -10). Again, Ages of Sail out of California did all they could to help me--but because of Caldercraft out of England, their help could only go so far. They (Caldercraft) could have--months ago--contacted me via email, but they didn't. All my email corrospondence was with Ages of Sail, who did their upmost to help me. So, a word to the wise for what it's worth.

Well finally finished today all the copper plates for the hull. Next step is to touch up all the black paint and Buikd the rudder and copper it and then install it also the two small gun ports that are on the Stern got to make those and get those installed. I’m Happy with the results of the Copper. I also found a way to keep the copper from getting a greenish color for patina I tested some sample copper plates that I built a week ago and I put a future floor wax for floors it’s a clear liquid you put on your floors it’s pretty tough and it’ll kept copper from oxidizing I’m gonna use that on the hull with my airbrush. I’ll also use that with my airbrush to coat the acrylic paint to keep it from chipping and making it stay durable

So much for trying to rely on some parts from this kit. Again another issue. Luckily I had purchased the rotor parts for my older ship model and I had some bunch of extras so I’m gonna use those as you can see in this picture I am so frustrated with mantua.

Well change my mind on the rudder pivots. I bought some 1/64 by 3/32 wide brass strips and I’ll make my own.
I’ve been working on some of the parts the top side and there’s a picture of the few pieces that I made or scavenged from my earlier model. The belfry Lower section still needs to be painted yellow ochre.
Also went through and put a second coat on all the black pieces that I made earlier now it’s just a matter of putting the sealer on them. Working on the sick bay doors with the 3-D printing. once I get it done I’ll post it online. Also primed and painted gunport lids and frames and painted the inside of the gun port lids with ochre red. Also you can see what a 3-D printed so far it’s close but I got a lot more work to do on it in AutoCAD before I can print it

Forgot to tell you, I use pledge “revive it flow gloss” for the sealer on my wood and copper plates. it came out really good. And it’ll keep copper from discoloring. “Viewed on YouTube using for plastic models and decided to try. A little bit of shine not to glossy which I like. Have a look. I only used it on the bottom black and copper up to the lower wale. I won’t do the top side until I can flip this model over and then I’ll use my airbrush.

Well I worked on my rudder pieces And made a Dieset to make them. First I use the 3-D printer to print out an approximate shape which I made in AutoCAD, printed and then tested for fit once it fit I proceeded to make a die set
I had some scrap very thin brass strip so I tested it with the die set that I made and I’m really happy with the results. Next step, I’ve got a build a jig to hold brass for getting the holes drilled.

Fore mast is now complete. I only have to add the blocks and eyepins also working on the upper deck pieces and the belfry etc. Will install this coming week. Also the belaying pins that came with kit. Ugh look at pic. I made one for a test from a cocktail toothpick and results are just what I want. 65 more to go. Got my setup in garage to turn them out my guess is a week to make them as I’ve other things to do around house lately.

I think the next step is going to be turning the supports for the ship model to mount onto the wood base for the display so it can be mounted permanently now because I don’t have to turn it over again and I got my mini lathe all set up in the garage so I can make them soon

My keel is 5/16” thick including copper plates.
I’m looking for pedestals for supporting model.
Does anyone know where I can find a pair for my model
Thanks
