I experimented simulating chalking with some scrap lumber & decided that using sewing thread looked the most realistic as you can see on the mortar deck. It needs to be trimmed, tree nails added & stained. Chalking the main deck in this manner will be tedious. Any thoughts on this technique?

Hi. I've been using it on my Hoy. It's a bit awkward, honestly, but it prevent hateful staining from pencil or dyeing. The outcome is also overall good, as the "true caulking" is evident even in 1:48 scale and the textile could fair minor misalignments occurring in the planking process. Regards.

Anyway, in the last month I installed the mast & have most of the standing rigging up. now I'm working on the shrouds & ratlines. Instead of using the kit supplied rope I went with Syren Ship Model Co. rope which does not have the fuzziness. For the ratlines I think I may have gone a little too large (.45mm) & didn't notice until I had a few of them in place. The only thing, I am not happy with- THE WEBLINGS- I have allays kearnes that the diameter shoud be 4 to 5 times thinner than the shrouds.-sorry, el capi.
I habe build it. got the kit to my 50 years birthday, sn it must 32 years ago
