Le Rochefort build log by OlivierF

Oliver,

SOOO Sorry on the knee! I did my ACL/MCL and meniscus in Park City 3 years ago.

Ask your ortho doc if it's scaring in and you could go with PT vice surgery. Much of the latest literature is recommending this route.

I did 8 weeks of intensive PT and went skiing again (with a brace) on the 10th week.

My ortho surgeon said recovery from surgery would be over 6-months...glad he was honest about the benefits of PT over surgery.

Loving your progress on the build, thanks for posting so many good pictures!

Thanks Brad.
The only thing I can say is, “Don’t get old!” I’ve been skiing since I was 3 (now 70) and competitively in high school and college. I was also a volunteer ski patroller for about 25 years. I’ve wrecked my knees many times with ACL MCL and even PCL tears. I had about ½ my meniscus scraped off on that knee about 30 years ago. The latest X-ray (today) shows substantial scaring, arthritis and bone-on-bone grinding. We’ve done PT, collagen and steroid injections, various braces. I think the end is inevitable with knee replacement surgery. It’ll go along with the shoulder replacement I had last year.

Thanks too for following my build. Reciprocal admiration on your Salamandre build log.

Well, our pitiful ski season is officially over today and I’ll have my knee joint replaced at the end of the month so it’s back to work on Le Rochefort.

I made this keel holder a while ago but it never worked well for me as it’s to tall. However it worked perfectly to angle the model so I could work on the exterior planking of the lower counter.

More to come as I start planking the exterior of the bulwarks…

Happy Easter every one!
