I was talking to the guy at Woodcraft yesterday, and he said someone asked him about miter boxes. He showed the guy this one and the guy said, "What can I saw with this thing?" The store guy answered and said, "Not 2x4s. If you want that, go down to Home Depot!" For all you non-USAers, Home Depot is a popular hardware store in America.

I use it to make square cuts mostly, and also for angles. But only on masts and thick pieces. Thin boards I use the chopper, which has an adjustable angle to it as well.

You think it will bugger up the teeth with thin boards? It seems to work on them fine.

No I just use the chopper because it’s quicker than sawing.

It comes with extra blades. I’m still using the first blade, and that cut the boards for the BN.

Oh yeah, I know about that from my Cazador. You have to use very sharp blades and cut carefully! I changed out many blades doing that hull…lol.

I used to enjoy planking but now it takes me a long time to do. Looks like you’re doing a bang up job though.

I had never done a full stealer before, so I decided to practice in an area which would be covered by the gallery. That way I’d feel more comfortable doing it if I really needed it. I’m placing it on a line with the bulkhead so it can attach to it.View attachment 262158

Thanks, Grant. In my mind, it turned out far better than in real life. I had it all so well planned out. As Burns said in his Scots colloquialism, "The best laid plans of mice and men gang oft aglay."

Port side is finally planked. Ten more strakes to go on the starboard side. I had to put in some stealers and a couple of splinters, but this is the best planking I’ve ever done. I’ll use a little putty to caulk now.
