L'Orenoque Mamoli 1:100 scale

Excellent ! quirky and wonderful ! And they actually look quite seaworthy, allthough i'm not sure they would be quickly deployed in an emergency.
Martin! Thank you! I too wonder about the design. I don't think these bateaux-tambour (drum boats) could be deployed in an emergency. I imagine they might have been used for ferrying troops and supplies. The kit has L'Orenoque rigged with three of the regular ships boats on davits (one at the stern). Hopefully most of the crew were great open water swimmers.

Blessings.

@The Gavel, a fine job you are doing with this build. It is going to look great.
Thanks for sharing.
Peter! Thank you for checking out my log and for your encouraging words! I think you're right - she's proably going to be a beauty. I was stymied by my doubts about my skills to make the bateuax-tambours. Now I have climbed that mountain. In my mind the next mountain is the amount of railing I need to fabricate. On my last build Harriet Lane I used CA to glue annealed steel wire together and it turned out fine at 1:96 scale. This time I am trying my hand at brass - would that I had the skills of a Paul @dockattner or a Peter @Peter Voogt or the masterful Robert @shipbuilder. Well, nothing like the next project to work on skill development    ROTF

Outstanding, dude Exclamation-Mark
But... Neon green:eek:??
Pete!!!! I knew someone would say something ROTFROTFROTF . Glad it was you :)!

No, my friend, not neon greenROTF. I'll probably go with black. But . . . I am thinking about a nice green stripe at the top of the gunnel:cool:.

Thank you for checking in! Praying for you and yours.

Blessings. Peace. Gratitude.

Looking at the pictures again - seems to me that a piece of line running along the keel would give a better impression of a thin metal joint. Thoughts? Also, I'm thinking to coat the outside with acrylic matte medium for a smoother surface before I paint the bateaux-tambour neon green. Thoughts?

Interesting paper technique for building the bateaux. You can go on with (thick) paper to make the metal joint. Ones painted you won’t see the origin of it.

Love everything about the boats! material and construction. Very creative! Okay ThumbsupThumbsup
Pete! Thank you, friend! Really it was a group project. I asked for advice and got some wise counsel. Also, if you want to have a real conversation about getting creative, we can just pick any point in your Flying Cloud build ;). Thanks again for the inspiration, Pete!

Blessings.

Peter! Thank you for the input! I have to wonder how you have the time to give input considering your project - which by the way is totally awesome!

Cheers!

What ho, shipmates!

I got the second bateaux-tambour done yesterday. It took about 1 hour 15 mins. My plan is to build a third as a reserve. I am starting to get really excited about detailing the interior of the one I propose to show in position for lowering. I am also going to detail the interior of the one that will be stowed. Indeed, that will allow me to do a bit of experimenting with the satisfaction of knowing what's hidden ;).

On another note - been thinking about the office spaces inboard of the sponsons and the bridge. My thinking is that the bridge deck should match the height of the tops of the sponsons at their highest point. Scaled out the height is 9'10". High enough? I'm thinking about the illustration of Darien (Post # 75) which shows her bridge at something more like 15 feet or higher. Keeping in mind that Darien didn't carry bateux-tambours, so the top of her sponsons was higher, and the distorted scale of the illustation, maybe I should consider building L'Orenoque's brigde a bit higher than 9'10"? Thoughts, please!

And since you've been so very patient - here are a few more pics :p

Line height of the bridge shows up on the top right illustration of the "panama, bateaux tambours" plate and i think the photo in harbour seems to show the same thing, that is, about sponson height. love the piccy's she looks great !
Been thinking about the bato tambours...would probably make for good equine offloading transport, maybe. Saw this the other day thought you might like it...comes from the greenwich museum i believe

Tx. Chuck. Got a full plate. Don't know when I'll get back to the shipyard.

Martin! I thought the same things. Better to rely on original plans than an artist's fantasy composed for an illustrated weekly. That's a nifty model! If you're thinking that I'll put a horse in the bateaux   ROTF

Blessings.
