Marisstella Cog 1:48

Well....I altered this section.
If you go back to one of my previous post, I mentioned that I extended the second platform by 5mm.
This is what happen.
After I had built this platform according to the blueprint , I find out when I received the horses, that the horses would not fit in the space designed from the instructions.
Soooo...”I had to rip apart the entire floor.” , and extended 5mm to create a 2 horse space on each side instead of of the 3.
This way, all of my separators posts will be the same high.

Also the system for the cross beam that hold the horses in place is not in the kits instructions.
The kit just show a piece of wood glue in place.
The way I did it helps for looks and for when you finally insert the horses. It will give you more space to work with.
Once you place the horses in, then simply slide the post.

Now
This is the system I used to glue the separators in place.

Again.....You guys might be looking at my posts laughing because you might know a better way of doing all of these mentioned steps, so be free and give me your opinions about what I did wrong.

You will notice that on this section, each horse separator, the horizontal beams have”different sizes”, that’s due to the curvature of the hull.
So what I did was to cut them all larger than needed and slowly sand the down to size.B6CF082D-14F1-4363-87E0-586B7707FF75.jpeg2A823A9D-CB6A-4CAA-BE17-F01E8FB42BF3.jpegAA32D7BB-E37A-4E91-9F66-52DE8174339C.jpegB50E44BD-9391-4524-977A-18EA8DC90789.jpeg67912C71-5B73-4036-9EFC-1A1AEFB9557C.jpeg87B9B96F-BFF5-499D-92F3-CF024AB8C6F9.jpeg02BD0350-E040-4253-8B54-886954F14596.jpeg03EE13EB-4075-4B80-8B15-D722B8E9E4C5.jpegAB319062-9B89-49B6-8A1D-06BBE38596EB.jpeg7FC5FFBC-D83F-4368-B9BD-F1D0AA727C46.jpeg63B565DE-8951-44CC-BBF4-C8F462E1DEC6.jpeg

The bed I did was the same length as the platform and you can see the marks I did to place each corresponding separators.
I stared with the first one toward the bow. After that was in place....believe me this part is tricky because you have no space., I had to cut down the makeshift bed because is too long to pull out after the second post was glue in place.

I always make my own flags and I have a method how to approach this.
When I find the time I will post the “How To”process .
Also I made my first wood case for this model.
To tell you the truth, this part is easy for me since I work in a Display company and we have a complete and full wood shop.
To create this case I used ideas from this great website.

This is my second wood ship build.
It’s an old Laughing Whale “”Friendship Sloop”.
For this kit, I bought a sewing machine and took me two months trying to get to know how to use it just to get the courage to sew the sails for it.
The Eagle in the bowsprit is completely scratched built.

Also I did sewed the sails on this one.
The painting you see in the back is something that I called “my second hobby”.
I love to do oleo paintings.
I have more if you guys want to see. I don’t know if is allowed in this forum.

Now back to the Ragusian Cog.
The next step is to build three deck supporting columns.
The blueprints calls for a plain post but I added something extra.
Here it is.

I think they look a bit more appropriate.
I mentioned this step to Zoran and he said that he will adjust the blueprints to accommodate this change.

Sorry if I’m posting too much pictures.
I wish that someone had done this before me so I could have saved lots of headaches trying deciphering the instructions.
By the way, I have forgotten to mention something very important that really surprised me when I first received this kit.
This kit DOES NOT have any pictures or schematics or drawings of how to build the hull inside or out, you are left only with the blueprints.
I really wished that Zoran some day soon will incorporate at least some renderings to help modelers like me.
THATS why I’m posting every angle posible.
Thank You fir Your patience guys.

This is excellent !!! They neither have pictures of the interior online. Something strange, when you are offering that built within your kit.

Well, nothing is perfect in life neither do I.

THANK YOU !!! for showing all the details.

Daniel

Yes, very strange that Zoran omits this so important tool for the instructions. When I received the kit I wrote him an email thinking that he had forgotten the pictures or that maybe there is a separate set of instructions, but to my surprise that’s how it is. Maybe after all the emails I have sent him with my adjustments, hopefully later on, he will fell moved to create a new set of instructions with pictures.
This is the MAIN reason why I’m doing this blog, I know that model makers on my level (rookie) will benefit from it.

Only two more steps and the interior is finished.
I will post those two tomorrow, then the build stops so I could start painting the horses and adding some kind of reins so they could be held secure in its stables.
At this stage I really need all the help I could get.
I’m referring to find out where I could purchase the following: barrels different size, sacs different sizes, and hay bales. Have in mind that this is 1/48 scale vessel.
Since I’m planing to show the cargo Bay Area, I need items from that era (1600’s).
I’m open for all of your suggestions.
Thanks

Barrels from diferentes sizes in walnut you can get them from Model Expo at an excellent price. The best Barrels are sold by Chinese companies. They are a small kit by themselves and with skills they look fantastic.... I got both and in my last built I ended using the Model Expo ones. Excellent quality !!!.

For sacs I did my own. But if you are skillful painting, you can get a lot of sacs used in military models.

~ 1:50 Scale is HO scale. That helps a lot.

Cheers
Daniel

Thanks Daniel:
I live only 20 minutes away from Model Expo.
I did all of their signage for the store.
For sure I’ll be visiting them soon. I got good connections there.
Great to know the fact about the HO/1:50 scale.
Now I have a place to start looking.
Very much pleased with the info.
