Modelship Dockyard - New Kit [Modelship Dockyard] PoF H.M.S. Enterprize 1774, the 1/48 version!

Initial inspection shows box to be in good condition and not showing any exterior damage.
Inside, parts look as they should. :) Don't pay any attention to the weird thing my iphone did with the picture. :)

Nice. Mine was supposed to arrive today (18th). Got a notification from DHL that there is a delay, no reason given, but suspect it's a customs issue. No revised delivery date either. Very disappointing as we've all been waiting so long. Hope to hear from DHL soon with details.

If an Enterprise 1/48 version Group Build (GB) is to start, there should be some guidelines set forth.

  1. At least 4-5 people are seriously interested and have the kit in hand ready to build. If less than that, SOS needs to have justification from each member as to why they feel a GB is necessary.
  2. This particular GB will not have sub-topics (forums) but will only have **one-container
  3. The **one-container principle allows for the GB to be dismantled and each separate "Builders Logs" to be moved into the "SOS Build Logs from Kits - Wood" section when or if the GB loses complete interest down to a level of only 2 active Separate Build Logs.

**One-container principle explained:
several of the other GB's have several SUB-FORUMS listed such as "support page", and "reviews" or "documentation". The one-container principle just means that a single GB FORUM will be created to "house" all members' Build Logs. Therefore, (in the future) if the GB loses complete interest EACH member Build Log can CONTINUE, but will be moved to the "SOS Build Logs from Kits" section.

I am sure the other Administrators would agree that this is an honest and fair policy for the Enterprise and offers community.

On a personal note, I have always favored Group Builds. The reason is that those who have more experience should offer help and guidance to those who need such attention and help. The more experienced modeler has a platform for others to follow. However, the Admins here strongly feel that minimum requirements need to be set forth. These are not discouraged, but encourage those to buy the kit and to join !!!
I have always been 100% in favor of anything to promote this Art.

Please respond with Yay or Nay so that I can proceed with setting up a GB of the Enterprise 1/48 pending a head count.

Kindly
Donald Driskell

I'm good with a group build.

Ok folks, let's see how much interest there is !

as afar as difficulty goes... it doesnt seem bad. Compared to NOT having to purchase a mini scroll saw and cutting the ribs out on your own, something that set plank on frame ship building back decades..

Thanks a lot. Yeah. It was a real surprise for me, as I hadn't even got a tracking number or even knew it had been shipped yet. I just got a whats app message from DHL Express this afternoon to say my package will be delivered on Tuesday 18th. This evening I got another email for information for customs in Madrid. It's definitely here. Can't wait for Tuesday. Will let you all know when it arrives Thumbsup :)

I guess I’m in for a GB. My Kit arrived yesterday (the 18th). Took a look last evening. Not too much info relating parts to the plan. Hunted around the kit today & found all of the keel & deadwood parts & punched them out & layed out the keel system. Lucky I know my way around a set of plans especially a set as basic as this. Nothing seems to relate from what plans there are to the parts sheets. It’s going to be a fun build!

Did you download the Instruction manual?

There is a full set of contemporary plans in high resolution, including as a fighting ship and as a receiving ship on the WikiCommons website that may come in handy at some point. Looking at the parts in your photo, they look to be spot on, including oft missed things like the rabbet ending short of the stern post exactly as in the original drawings. I don't recall seeing any kit ever picking up on this before. Kudos to Model Ship Dockyard. And, as mentioned previously, the original contract for her sister ship Aurora is also available as a cross reference.

Allan,
Are you going to build this ship ? BTW, I have a family member, a great, great, great uncle who was a lieutenant aboard HMS Pomone. Wasn't Pomone an Enterprise class vessel ? If it was, maybe my build should be HMS Pomone.....Here is a brief bio of my ancestor, and a piece on Adm Pellew, who also was one of his commanders. This is truly fine if I may say so.

Hi Alex
I could never afford a kit when I started into wooden ship models so I was relegated to scratch building. I learned to do my own research starting with libraries back in the 70's and accumulate tools, usually used, one at a time. If I spend money on a kit now, the Admiral will likely question why I have a shop full of
tools. :) This kit looks so good though that maybe a change would be interesting but for me would still include a LOT of study of every dimension compared to the contemporary sources.
Wasn't Pomone an Enterprise class vessel ?

The Pomona (28), 1778 was an Enterprize class 28 but there was the Pomone, (44) 1794 that ran aground in the Islands of Jersey. Interesting that there is a drawing of five or six of her midship frames after the wreck which is below. There was also the Leda Class Pomone (38) 1805. There may be more ships name Pomone and Pomona. From the dates in your attachments and assuming the spelling is correct I am guessing he was on the Pomone (44) not the Pomona. It has to be really interesting to have this kind of family history. With a relative that served in the RN back then, have you done any research into the various archives in Kew or RMG for more information? Even the London Times can be a great source if you enjoy doing this kind of research.
Allan

While the below is a wrecked midship section, the waterways, knees, wales, planking, limberboards and other details are interesting.

Due to printing accuracy issues with the printer, I cannot fully trust 1:1 drawings.
The accuracy of all our nesting materials should be based on the laser cut slipway。I suggest that all 1:1 drawings are for reference only
The part number is on the instruction manual in the PDF
Hope you have a good experience

I have the instruction manual in PDF. I do not see a "parts list" that shows each sheet and the numbered pieces in each sheet in order to inventory the kit. The manual is superb ! I am eager to get started early next month.

We adopt a large-scale mass production approach to reduce costs, so when packaging wooden boards, there will be three opportunities to count the boards。
Unless the logistics company damages the packaging during violent transportation, there will be no missing boards in other cases。

@Keef Did you get your kit or hear from DHL?
I hope you received it. :)

Hi Jeff. The parcel has bee stuck in Seville since 17th with only the information ''clearance event'', so assume it's a customs issue. This afternoon got a message to say it has cleared customs with a bill of 208 euros, about the same in US dollars. I have paid this and am now awaiting a delivery date, so hopefully should arrive in a day or 2
