This is my very first ship model ever.
Scratch build. Wood - pear. Ancre plans and monograph by Franco Fissore.

I will try to log my building process here and will be very thankfull for everybody who will dare to join by telling my mistakes or giving priceless sugestions.

And I'm sorry for my english there will be many mistakes 'couse I am from Lithuania but I will try my best.

So lets begin in short by pictures to see what I' ve done till now:IMG_20191111_221954.jpgIMG_20191111_222556.jpgIMG_20191111_193214.jpgIMG_20191111_195330.jpgIMG_20191111_203310.jpgIMG_20191111_210855.jpgIMG_20191117_143315.jpgIMG_20191116_220102.jpgIMG_20191114_173354.jpgIMG_20191111_195141.jpgIMG_20191111_194653.jpgIMG_20191111_194819.jpgreceived_933637473689554.jpegIMG_20191111_221954.jpgIMG_20191111_222556.jpgIMG_20191111_193214.jpgIMG_20191111_195330.jpgIMG_20191111_203310.jpgIMG_20191111_210855.jpgIMG_20191117_143315.jpgIMG_20191116_220102.jpgIMG_20191114_173354.jpgIMG_20191111_195141.jpgIMG_20191111_194653.jpgIMG_20191111_194819.jpgreceived_933637473689554.jpegIMG_20191117_205218.jpg

and next job is to start joining futokcs parts and assembling them to keel

I can fully underline the words made by Oliver and Maarten - Very promising start of your work and building log.
I will follow with big interest.
For everybody interested in the planset please take a look here:

Hi Mantas, THIS IS A DREAM COME TRUE, I HAVE BEEN BITTEN BY THE SCRATCH BUG AND THIS ONE IS ON MY LIST SHOULD BE GETTING THE MONOGRAPH AND PLAN SET FOR CHRISTMAS, AS I AM NOW WORKING ON THE LE ROCHFORT AS MY FIRST SCRATCH BUILD HAVING SOME PROBLEMS WITH IT MAINLY INTERPERTING THE PLANS, SO MAYBE IF YOU CAN SHOW THE PLANS AND HOW YOU CUT THE PATTERNS AND FRAME SANDING, AS I LIKE TO HAVE MORE THEN ONE PROJECT GOING AT A TIME I ALSO WILL BE STARTING THIS ONE AROUND THE FIRST OF THE YEAR, AND BTW FOR A FIRST BTIME SCRATCH YOUR BUID IS AMAZING, THANKS Don

Mantas, welcome to SOS, good start to your project, I see that you have full control over the parts you make, very good,
good tools and good results, thank you for showing, pictures often say more than a word,

Thank you everybody for good words they encourages me to continue work and building log. For today there is not to much to say, after workday there was searching for 0.8mm brass wire to buy in local shops, and studying little bit about wire drawing with drawplates, anealing metals and so on, 'couse tomorrow gonna try to make nails for joining futocks parts. Bought 50m of brass wire.

@NMBROOK - jig blocks not my idea, these are taken from monography, there was some dificulties to assemble it very very acurate in 90 degrees but now the jig does his work.

@donfarr the plans you can see in #4, Uwek posted link to planset rewiew and cuting process showed in photos. I am not done bevieling and sanding of futocks, at first I want to join parts of them, and maybe someone will sugest me how it will be better:
1. beviel futocks separetly? or
2. beviel futocks after assembing them to the keel?

I cant trust ANCREs plans so I am thinking on variant 2.

Manatas
On this size and hull form I would bevel after,it is easy enough to do.it will also be quicker and easier on something like this
Regards
Nigel
I agree here with Nigel (as usual) - nevertheless before you finally fix the futtocks with the keel, I would turn the futtocks by 180°.
On the papers glued on the futtocks, the dotted / dashed line is the beveling lines and it is much easier to control the sanding work, when you can see the line

BTW: Very good work - it is getting a very interesting building log

That is a fair point Uwe(no pun intended).I just feel important to mention that Manatas has these the correct way round regarding the actual drawings,on the framing elevations, these are viewed looking toward bow and stern working away from dead flat.Your good suggestion is merely one to makes things easierThumbsup

Kind Regards

Nigel

Good day ship builders, to continue work it was some testing with making nails, blackening them and so on.
tryed method one:IMG_20191120_174224.jpgIMG_20191120_174310.jpgIMG_20191120_175131.jpgIMG_20191120_175452.jpgIMG_20191120_175351.jpgIMG_20191120_183027.jpg
but tryed and simplest way:
IMG_20191121_164706.jpgIMG_20191121_164807.jpgIMG_20191121_164841.jpgIMG_20191121_165049.jpgIMG_20191121_165844.jpgIMG_20191121_190147.jpg
for futtocks I choose second option, but with first I learned skill to make square or star type nailhead if will need it some day.

tomorrow will continue joining futtocks, and @Uwek I cant turn around futtocks, because there will be second parts on top of paper side and leaving the paper not gonna be an option, thats why I decided prebeviel them separatly. pics will be in my next log.

Thanks for your intrest everybody.

Hi Manatas

You can buy square brass rod,I am thinking of using that for the hull nails on Saint Philippe.Years away from that but I like to plan aheadROTF
I have done the nail "rolling" technique before and found I got a better "head" when using copper.Only disadvantage is that you will have to drill a pilot hole nearly the same diameter as the nail as the copper is softer.

Kind Regards

Nigel

Hi MANATAS, I will be odering the monograph during this month, right now doing the LE ROCHEFORT, but as this is my first SCRATCH BUILD I AM HAVING SOME PROBLEMS, NOT MANY BUT SOME mainly in interpeting the plans, I HAVE DOWN LOADED THE FREE PDF FROM ANCRE and I think this one is better for my experience level and also you LOG IS A GREAT HELP, please more photos, and I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS IS YOUR FIRST SCRATCH BUILD SO GOOD. Don PS WILL STILL CONTINUE THE LE ROCHEFORT, while geeting more experience with the plans

When you order from ancre the monograph, please send Didier Berti some Regards.
But be aware with the Felucca - the frame construction is different to the other ships like the Rochefort etc.

HI UWE, YES I KNOW THE FRAMING IS DIFFERENT THAT IS WHY I WANT TO DO IT SOMETIMES USING THE NORMAL TYPE FRAMING CAN GET BORING SO I LIKE DIFFEREN TYPES OF FRAMING MAKES IT INTERESTING, AS THE SCRATCH BUILD BUG HAS HIT ME , I LIKE THE CONCEPT, ALSO THE JIG IDEA STRIKES ME AS ON I COULD DO BETTER THEN THE WATERLINE JIG, i still want to continue with the LEROCHEFORT ALSO as it is my want to have 2 or 3 going at the same time so as not to get burn out by just doing andi think this one is a little easier for my skill level right now, what do you think, THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY. Don PS I DO HAVE SOME QUESTIONS ON THE LE ROCHEFORT JUST CONFIRMATIONS RIGHT NOW

Hallo @Manatas ,
