Nikitin San Bartolome 1584 A.D. (Kit #35)

Not much shipyard time currently. I’ve been drafted by the Admiral to help with the Christmas decorating. During the bargained for “Union” coffee breaks I managed to piece together the Latrine fencing.

(Now that I am officially an Old Fart, I have completely stopped decorating for Christmas....34 boxes of decorations in the attic where someone, someday, will discover)

Your ship is looking good!

 I just do the "Heavy" lifting. Since I've been repeatedly reminded that I have no eye for "decor", 'so I fetch and carry . The best part of the season starts when the baking begins, cookies,Stolen, bread and pies.:D

My attic is accessed in the garage with the pull-down door/ladder....I hate going up and down it...but it offers one thing= Out of sight, Out of mind..
I had great model railroad visions for our basement when we first checked out the house. Then by the next visit some "&*&^" had put in a oil tank, furnace, hot water heater, all kinds of copper pipe, PVC sewer pipe, etc. By the time we added the washer, dryer and storage shelves my railroad layout had shrunk considerably. But it's much easier to bring things up from the basement than trying to use the attic. Thats two sets of steps to negotiate, the pull down door/ladder and the steps from the second floor.

Good morning Jan. In between all the other christmas chores, some good modelling progress....Nice. My suggestion for you,Daniel and Phil is to have the kids and grandkids around for Sunday lunch and get them all to carry those boxes from the Attic or basement...... ;) .Cheers Grant
My daughter and her family live in Zaandam....a bit far from Idaho.....

Good morning Phil. I had to google where Zaadam is. Yep that is a “tad” far to come over for a Sunday lunch ROTF. In SA so many of the kids emigrate after university that Christmas is always a big occasion with many kids coming home for the holidays. I’ve been lucky with both my kids staying in Cape Town so far…..Cheers Grant

Zaandam is not that far away from where I live, Phil. So, for a Sunday lunch ……… ;)
But to do the honors and visit all the family of ‘Non-Dutch’ SoS members who live in the Netherlands ........
But Zaandam is a nice place and nearby the 'Zaanse Schans' with it's great collection of different types of windmills that are still in operation. Part of my miller's training I had in the paint windmill ‘De Kat' with the very enthusiastic miller Piet Kempenaar. They still grind raw materials for making authentic paints. They also helped to compose the paints that Rembrandt used in his paintings.
So if members make models of sailing ships from the 17th and 18th century, they can consider using the paints from that time?
Just click on the colored link of ‘De Kat’ above.
Regards, Peter

I also had to use Google to look up Zaadam. A visit from there would be a bit of a “hike”. We have two sons and their families on the West coast and one living just a few miles from us. It takes a lot of planning to have a family gathering.

I also managed to finish the Latrine fencing and all of the forecastle bits and pieces.

Sometimes something takes a little time, but that way you get pride in your work, Jan. It looks nice with natural curves.

Hello Jan,
Just a thought for you. When I was done final shaping mine I covered the cap rails with some thin veneer. Got rid of the unsightly seams.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and new year.
