NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

I thought this was interesting, the reason there is animals in the decorations, and a man holding fish and the other a rifle, was to represent their trades of hunting and fishing. So it’s a manly man’s ship… ROTF. But that also means no beautiful women on this ship. :(

I made a window and put it in place without gluing, to see what the red would look like against the black. I’m not happy with the width of the horizontal and vertical boards. I will have to try to make them thinner without breaking them. I’m thinking I may put a thin gold border around them. It would be a lot of extra work. Will have to sleep on it. Opinions welcome. ;)IMG_5815.jpeg
In addition I see some glue on the black that needs to be sanded and removed and touch up paint done…macro pics! ROTF

Maybe it's just that the surrounding carvings aren't there yet either, thus amplifying the "robustness" of the window framing. When more attention is drawn to the carvings, the frames may no longer look out of scale...
The problem is the scale…1/75…so if you had 1/2” board between the panes, at scale it would be a hair wide at .007”! Even at 1” wide board would be .013”! So making them thin enough to be in scale is virtually impossible. So I have to get as thin as is feasible and that will have to do. And you can not buy boards at that thickness either. So I am left to trying to reduce them by hand without breaking them. And there are 17 windows at the lower deck and about 18 on the upper deck. So a lot of work just making all these windows! But that’s ship building…

Hi Dean,

Had some catching up to do and what a progress you made, she is looking great.

Ps did you consider to skip the gun port frames billing boat provided and make the gun port lids flush with the hull?
Thanks Maarten!
Actually I had not considered that, as I just used them. Would it look better in your opinion to make them flush with the hull or less proud of the hull? I wanted them to be gold. The lids will be red with a gold Lions head. In fact they probably used the same ones from the Vasa kit! ROTF
