NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

Thank you Daniel!
I agree it is a nice stage of the build, looks wise, however I know it will look so much better finished with all of the paint, stain and details added! ;)
Plus we have to get the Lion on the ship! He is already complaining he is tired of sitting in the box! He said he wants to ride the keel, with the wind in his mane! :p
By the time he is fitted he is going to be a grumpy Lion. You may have an issue here Dean;)

I always use blue painters tape for masking the lines on the hull. Then I add clear to protect, and it will also keep the tape from pulling the paint off. I usually clear coat any stained wood prior to painting, this not only protects the stain and seals it, but it also helps with masking. In addition, with the clear coat on, if I mess up with the paint, I can just lightly scrape it off with a blade or sand it off and then touch up the clear with out affecting the stain. If you paint first, you run the risk of the paint soaking into the wood and then you can't remove it so easily. I will most likely stain first and add the black last because it goes against the stain. The white doesn't touch any stained wood, it borders the black. Hope that all makes sense. ;)

PS - to prevent chipping of the paint when removing the tape, I lightly run an xacto blade along the edge of the tape and cut the overlap of paint.
Great advice Dean, I need to write this down somewhere ...

Dean, this is exactly what I do with my plastic aircraft models if I use the brush instead of the airbrush, when I have to make special maskings (e.g. F35A/B Lightning)

Hello fellow modelers!
I posted in a few build logs recently why I have been absent, but thought it would be fitting to keep anyone updated who may be looking forward to progress on the NL.
Short story…family and I got Covid and afterwards I developed a bad case of Bronchitis that didn’t want to go away! After taking steroids, antibiotics, cough meds and using an inhaler, I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (No I’m not dying , I am almost well)… ;)
So I have avoided glue, stain, sanding or cutting wood, etc. or anything that would aggravate my lungs.
So the last 2 months I have been busy with other hobbies, mainly music! So my guitar playing has made significant improvements lately! :p

I hope to be back at the workbench soon with some progress to show! Until then, everyone stay well. I have been keeping an eye on you all!
Good morning Dean. Clearly you have been through the “wringer” and I am super happy you on the road to recovery. That is a cool guitar collection. Looking forward to the Lion roaring again. Cheers Grant

Nice collection Dean. I'll hope you recover soon and you can leave that bad period behind and start working again on the NL. Best of luck and see yah later.

Peter

Hi Dean. Nice to see and hear from you, here on the SoS. Hopefully you and your family can now take big steps forward. Making music is always a nice distraction.
Regards, Peter

Hello Dean, I'm glad to know that little by little you are recovering and that you will soon return to your shipyard. A big hug my friend for you and your family.
