NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

It looks Lovely, Dean! I am very happy to see you back in action on the NL. One only has to follow the build reports on the various Billings' kits to realize that they are a challenge to build, BUT with the right man behind the helm, they do build into stunningly beautiful models. One just has to look at @Daniel20 Daniel's VASA as proof of that. With you behind the NL's helm, it's just a question of time before an equally beautiful model will be created. I will keep on following with big interest and wish you every bit of success with your endeavors!

Thank you very much Heinrich! I agree Daniel built an excellent Vasa! And he too embellished the kit. I can only hope to do as well on the rigging as he did! ;)
The thing about Billing’s kits, is that the larger war ships are categorized by them as an expert level kit. And because of that, they assume you have built many ships before and they don’t hold your hand. And they leave a lot of details for you to figure out yourself. Some of the provided parts are not high quality and you are best replacing or scratch building them. But that goes for a lot of kits.
I was most impressed by the Occre kit I built. They provide excellent step by step instructions with color images. And the rigging plans were easy for me to follow.
In conclusion, most Billing’s kits are not for beginners! At least not the war ships. If they say it’s an expert level kit, be prepared!
That said…I think the Norske Love is a much overlooked ship, which is a shame! I intend to show what a beautiful ship it really is. And hopefully others will see the intrinsic beauty she holds. The ship’s gallery’s and railings at the stern can be stunning if done right. You only have to look at Karl’s Prince Frederich build to see that! That and the bow figurehead (Lion) and railings make her something worthy of admiration in my humble opinion. So I hope to do her true justice! ;)

Today I made the stand that comes with the kit. It will not be the final stand, but will hold the ship while I continue the build.

Then I added some strips of leather to keep from scratching the hull.

Next was making a pattern for the rudder tiller arm opening. First I layout on painters tape.

Then I cut it out and centered on the stern…

Then I trace it into the wood…

Then I cut it out with a knife and use files to sand the edges…

Then it was time for more black paint… ;)

Painted the black on the hull and bow keel. Then started painting more on the transom…

Also the walls and decks have survived all the hull construction! ;)

With the white and black painting, your NL shows her beautiful lines more and more, Dean. And the attention you give to the planking paid of in a smooth and flowing surface.
Regard, Peter
