NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

I started the railing below the first one so I could make the scroll next at the end of the first railing.
Since they will be painted gold, I am not trying to match the wood. I just scrounged up some pear I had and sandwiched that with the kit wood. I need to buy boxwood and pear for carvings! Running dangerously low on wood to carve! :(
Anyway, I am pretty happy with it. It is taller than wide, so I had to get a little creative.

Inside of the bulwarks will be painted red, so I didn’t carve anything for the inside.
Happy modeling! ;)View attachment 359052
I admire your carving skills, you and @Ptèr. I would someday like to add that skill to my toolbox.

Having failed in my first attempt to profile a curved piece on a railing I can only be impressed. Using a dense hardwood was the way to go.
Thanks Paul!
Yes, you need a hardwood that is tight grained and doesn't splinter. Soft wood is too fuzzy, and you don't get the good definition. Most common woods for carving are boxwood and pearwood. ;)

Your build is beautiful. I really admire your skills. And as I'm currently work on the same project I use the log to get inspiration and tips on my own build.

Excellent work on scrolls! Forgive my ignorance, mia amigo, I know about painting-nothing. If you have two wood parts in different colors, will this affect the all-over painting where the darker wood will produce the darker paint (when it is dried)?

Thank you Jimsky! ;)
That is a good question…
It depends on the color and how many coats. I could paint the darker piece with primer first, but I don’t think it will be necessary because I am using a dark gold.

Looking at my airplane models, I realized Richthofen is not happy with me right now. He stands looking at a Sopwith Camel, as if he just shot it down, but he wants his Albatros D.Va so he can get back in the air! ;)
Between him and the Lion, I am torn in two directions. I suppose when I get tired of railings, wales and cannon ports… I could start doing some work on the wings of the Albatros!

That F4... That thing is so darn ugly it becomes beautiful again.
The guy, who was my designated examiner on my check ride, needed a cushion on the passenger seat to look over the glare shield. Mind you, that was in a Cessna 152. Later I learned he flew F4's in 'Nam.
He must have been bloody terrific at instrument flying; no way he could have seen anything above his instrument panel.

Beautiful eye candy btw.

Thanks, I now have WW1, WW2 and fighter jets. :)
I had to include the Messerschmitt and Focke-Wulf in my WW2 collection!
I used to have about 30 jets at one time, but after a divorce and a couple of moves…well let’s say I am back to adding them. ;)
