NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

It’s looking promising with nice natural curves. A nice piece of scratch additions, Dean.
And your new guitar looks very fine! Hopefully it has a nice approach and great sound. But you wrote: ‘Plays like a dream’.
Regards, Peter
Thank you Peter! The head rails are a challenge, but the attachment to the keel was more of a challenge. But I think I found a solution that will look good. :)
Yes, the guitar sounds and plays great! Glad I was able to get it! ;)

Deans playing with his new toy….making music not ships. ;)
You spying on me? ROTF
I AM playing my new guitar, but I am also going to get back to the ship soon. I had to order some wood, but I am not sure how soon I will get it? So I may have to focus on another task on the ship. I can do a Grant, and bounce around from cannons to nails, etc. ;)

Wow Dean, I lost track of your build but just caught back up. I love the headrail work along with the lion. Great looking guitar as well.

I am going to vent a little about ordering online...
As everyone knows, since Covid started, a lot of the stores starting closing locations and moving to online sales. So the prospect of walking in a store, grabbing something off the shelve, paying for it and going home with it, has become more rare. So less instant gratification! ROTF
There are pros and cons. You don’t have to leave your home to buy anything if you don’t want, and more products are available online than before. But you also have to pay more because of shipping. In addition, you pay in advance and wait!
I ordered parts last week. I got an order confirmation, and was informed once the item’s shipped, I would get an email with tracking information. A week later, out of three stores, none have so much as given me shipping info yet. That doesn’t always mean that your order is not on the way.
But more often I am noticing a trend of online retailers taking your money and waiting up to a week to ship your order. This doesn’t seem right! But I have also learned to try to order in advance of when I actually am going to need something.
Of course local retailers get your order to you in a matter of days. But anything out of state or overseas seems to be taking much more time… sigh! So… I guess we must adapt to this new way of doing business and shopping. We remain at the mercy of the retailers to ship your purchase in a timely manner. Plus with all the online purchases and shipping traffic, things are taking longer than they used to.
But I have also taken a new stance on repeat business. If a retailer takes longer than usual and has poor communication, I will not buy from them again! ;)

Dear Dean. The bow section of the NL (and that includes all ancillary work done until now) looks superb. It forms a beautifully integrated line with the rest of the ship and remains subtle - in other words, it looks exactly like it should (in my mind's eye). And as to the Ibanez - what a beautiful-looking instrument. I am sure that your pride of ownership is through the roof!

Thank you Heinrich! The bow, or beaks head area with the head rails, is always a challenging area of the ship. That and the ship’s gallery’s at the stern can make or break a ship when it comes to overall appearance. So I have been agonizing over the details, and trying to make it flow well and tie in properly. I appreciate your comments and feedback, as it always helps to know if you are on the right track by getting feedback from others. ;)
As far as the new guitar goes, I was very excited to finally get it! A new instrument always inspires you to play! ;)

Thanks all for your views. I have just joined and just started to build this ship although I have had it boxed since 1096. Long story. I’m looking for detail and pictured to plank decks and hill and although the kit contains balsa base decking I would like your vies on wood and size for planking. Also looks like only one layer of hill planking what size woood etc should second be. Thanks. Sorry so long

My experiences with online ordering are ambivalent. Some know really well how to take care of their business and a lot of their orders arrive within a couple of days, if you order in Europe from a European source. Orders coming from Canada or the US take a little longer, I guess all the cargo aircraft, crossing the Atlantic, have to deal with severe headwinds, and European customs is known to be a pain.
Parts ordered and coming from China are really bad. Given, the proces are low, but having to wait for a couple of months is no exception.
One of the main things driving me crazy is that you don't have a "feel" of what you're ordering, size-wise nor material wise; stiffness, appearance, etc. Another issue is the immense cost increase of almost everything you buy; in the Netherlands the term "grabflation" is frequently used to identify over-the-top price increases.
The advantage of having to wait for your parts is that it gives you a) time to reflect ones decisions and to plan a ahead a little further and b) it gives me a little more time to focus on playing music.
With respect to your last remark, the funny things is that most stuff I order online for our shared hobby comes in rather quickly. Parts for our household are a different story.

Hey Lou! Yes it’s the new PIA model in powder blue. When I saw the new color was coming out, I ordered one in July of last year. ;)
These are my Steve Vai signature model guitars…

I never got around playing the guitar, deemed it way too complex for my grey matter to deal with. Instead I picked up playing the pipe organ with multiple keyboards, a full set of pedals and multiple stops to manipulate, so much easier than playing guitar... ROTF
An impressive line-up, Dean, at least seven guitars around the house?

Thank you Johan. I have 12 guitars at the moment. And I do play all of them, just not at the same time! ROTF

I fear you have posted in the wrong place. An administrator can help you with your build log and how to post in it. Welcome aboard.

Thank you Johan. I have 14 guitars at the moment. And I do play all of them, just not at the same time! ROTF
For some odd reason my better half allows me only one digital organ....

Various brands? You play in a band, or its just you, enjoying yourself playing music?

Yes, various brands and various types. I have acoustic and electric. Fixed bridge and floating bridge (tremolo type) on electric guitars. Some have 22 frets and some have 24 frets. Different wood types, different pickups, etc. Each guitar has its own unique sound and advantages.
I used to play in bands since high school, but about 8 yrs ago I decided to stop playing in bands. I got tired of rehearsing and gigging. But I still get together with other musicians for fun. ;)
