Revenge 1577 1/64 Victory Models/Amati

Ha! Yep, when young we want to be older and when older we want…. You know.

Built three more decks on the Revenge, the main deck will get finished planked after the bulwarks install. Still have to fine sand and poly the aft two decks and then it’s on to the decorative bulkheads that separate the various levels - lots of color and looks like fun! Still trying to figure out how to do the various shapes and colors with wood but the supplied paper strips look pretty awesome on other builds….56B5F328-D801-4966-A880-4123163BA608.jpeg1349183C-57FF-4358-93F1-D3E108C81D37.jpeg

Thanks For looking in Dean, and all the likes! I’m trying Brian, really itching to start my Granado or Enterprise they seem pretty far off for now….. I am enjoying this build though!

Continued with the stern upper bulkhead, the kit piece is made with the ditebou wood and didn’t like the look of that with the lower stern in pear so I planked it with some pear, I used some different widths and one was darker than the other, didn’t think it would be that noticeable but after Poly it really is…. Painted the window photoetch white and put some backing strips to hold the PE in. Thanks Doc! Thats a huge compliment coming from you, your Vasa sets the bar very high indeed! One thing this build is showing me that I need to pay more attention (among a multitude of other things) to multiple termination points, like where the flat stern planks meet the curved hull side planks, it’s not as prevalent in person but the camera is unforgiving- probably should have left just a few thousands more on the stern overhang to meet the side planks. I am aware of those relationships but I just get in a hurry, get distracted, lose focus or just the dreaded CRS from advancing years!
Also need to be willing to start something over if I don’t like the result of the first attempt…. That’s hard for me to do because I know that I am impatient and always looking at the next build…. But I also know that willingness to strive for perfection is what separates the best from the rest. Discipline! Arrrgghh!

Installation of more cannon carriages- smaller than the main guns probably 12 pounders - I don’t know if cannon were rated the same in the 16th century but in that range if I were guessing… I screwed six of those to the mid decks before covering them with the quarterdeck and the forecastle deck. I partially planked the quarterdeck between the hatches and put it in place, need to cut off all but the last set of bulkhead extensions and then the various decorative BCE6E974-310E-4FD1-9D7A-A3F2B50D6CAD.jpeg5E19C625-942E-4503-B801-53068C2C8442.jpeg2AA740B0-FA54-415A-A931-E14A0526B5DC.jpegbulkheads get built up and decorated next and then more fairing and side bulwark pieces and then planking, planking, etc….

Little correction- I guess I need to frame the gratings openings and make the helmsman’s canopy before getting to the bulkheads, that will take a bit as I am remaking the grating frames out of pear, like I did back on pg.1, still fun stuff!

Doesn’t look like much but it’s kept me busy, got the forecastle deck on and planked and made the hatch coamings, still have to paint the gratings but they won’t be final placed till the end of the build so no hurry…. Everything is just placed for a pic, not glued yet as they aren’t critical yet.0E678024-8371-4594-95AB-3911A4199257.jpeg668ACA80-A18E-47D2-98A3-56D3FC429ABA.jpegEBAE1FFB-FB17-498D-BEDA-724FCD53F37F.jpeg
