San Francisco AL build log

Hi guys! So I decided to start this build log of the San Francisco from Artesania Latina (the old version not the new one). This is my first build ever, so any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Anyways I started this build exactly one month ago and started watching threads here in SOS and decided to try this build lo

Anyways this is my progress so far.

Hi Miguel
I haven't seen any updates on your San Francisco build. I hope you haven't given up! My build has been put on hold for quite some time due to some health issues but I have recently been giving it a go again.

Hi Tommy! I sure haven't given up but I did put it on hold as well. I haven't really had much free time to work on this but I hope I can find some time soon. Also soon I'll post about a smaller build I've been doing on the side.

I hope you get better really soon and looking forward to seeing updates on your build. Maybe that's what I need to continue my own.

I'll bite . . . what is the difference between the old and new kits?

The primary difference is that the San Francisco kit hull is one layer of thick planking and the San Francisco II kit hull is two layers, a thicker first planking to allow you to get the shape precise, and thin veneer second layer to achieve the final hull appearance. The rest of the kit is essentially equal. They made the San Francisco II to make it easier for beginners to build, and it was an improvement in that regard.

Kurt,

Thank you for your reply. I had in mind to get the San Francisco. But, if SFII is available today, I may get that one instead. Thanks again!

It's funny because mine seems to be like a san francisco 1.5 mine has two layers for the hull but is different than san francisco 2. The instructions are different but were a lot more useful than the ones that came included in mine. Also there's a few different parts. For example the crows nest on mine was one only piece and already made. On san francisco 2 you have to make it and it looks different 20240727_230137.jpg
Also the part that I highlighted in blue in this picture is separate in SF2. In mine it was all in one part. I think it looks better in one part but was maybe a little bit more complicated to assemble (but not to much since I was able to do it and I'm a beginner) 20240727_230140.jpg

For a first-time project, you're doing a great job. My first project didn't come out that great but with time and practice I'm finally getting better. :=)
Keep up the great work.
Absolutely! Take pride that your first build of a POB ship model that is looking so good! Well done and keep going!
