Soleil Royal- Re-engineering Artesania Latina's New Kit by NMBROOK

Sometimes the simplest ways work best Paul ;) I would add though that this method works best with a hollow upper hull where the spacer can straddle both sides. Not only does it ensure the size is consistent but also that the cills and heads are perfectly level across the ship. This will make the fitting of the sides ( with a slight adjustment to my jig ) very simple.

Kind regards

Nigel

So simple - so obvious - so ignored by me. Brilliant little spacer block to make sure the frames are perfect (there's that word again).
My model has a few of those gun port corrections. You have relax about changing the hull at this stage because no matter what you do, you can fix it and none of the fixes will be visible when it's done.

Hello Nigel, so far so good, very nice work ! One only detail you could correct is the shape of the gunports. They are not square, the bottom and upper sides follow the lines of the decks. :)

Thank you Marc

Yes this is something I debated over as you are indeed correct.I chose to keep them square as I am following Berain's artwork with blue inside the port lids and I plan on the outside edge to be in Boxwood, also to mimic the artwork. The aftermost ports would be too much of a parallelogram to be aesthetically pleasing with the oblique lids above. It would be historically correct to follow the deck sheer but it would not be pleasing to the eye.

Well I am please to say my large shipment of arms got through customs and I haven't been arrestedROTFROTFROTFROTF

One complete set of cannons and carriages landed at my door this morning courtesy of Kris @SZKUTNIK.Both cannons and carriages are all sized to suit the different calibers.3D print work is top notch and requires the minimal of cleanup.A few of the Quion handles have broken off in transit but are still in the bags.A little job to glue these back on, can't be any worse than 1/700 photoetchROTF

Half of the armament is still in the bags, only 36 and 24lb have been opened for the pics

Kind Regards

Nigel

Hi Nigel.
They look great, fine detailed work on the canons. Kudos to @Skutznik.
Looking forward to the finished canons on your model.

Yes they are excellent and very reasonably priced IMHO.Little if anything more than the cast Italian generic stuff. The key is in the painting, I have a few ideas on that one;)

Be a while before they are fitted ROTF but I now have something definitive to work with for my heights between deck and lower cillThumbsup

Good God - it’s astonishing how detailed these really are! Fantastic stuff, Kris! If it can be done better than that, then I’d like to see it.

If you like them now Mark, just wait till the little "head" Cascabels are glued on:pThe detail on these is outrageous.Panic attack now wondering if the rest of the model will live up to the armament:rolleyes:

I have no affiliation to Kris, just a very satisfied customer but I honestly don't know of a better alternative at this price point for ornamental cannons if you want something true to the model you are building rather than generic

You know - Kris is truly a man of the moment. He’s providing something sorely needed in the hobby, which is the opportunity to sub-out the more difficult/time-consuming aspects of the hobby in those instances when a builder doesn’t feel like spending years on a project, but would nonetheless like it to appear so. Just as with those cascabels, the Devil’s always in the details. I think what Kris is offering can only encourage builders to take on a more diverse and challenging array of projects. Everybody wins, here!

I am nearly finished with the framing of the lower gun deck ports and I am already well into the next stage.

Now for a bit of fun, see if anyone can guess what is coming? Two clues;

1) Model will resemble British board game "Kplunk"

2) A technique used by Dimitry Shevelev.

All will be revealed in a day or so;)

Kind Regards

Nigel
