Soleil Royal- Re-engineering Artesania Latina's New Kit by NMBROOK

Your painting is so impressive! I hope that isn't flaking on the carts though...

Very observant Paul, I had crazing on two carriages after applying Matt coat .Perhaps I should have left the oils for a full two weeks before Matt coat. Or I applied too much Matt to the two carriages. This is a learning curve and I will leave the two affected carriages as the areas will be almost invisible without a dental mirror when the model is complete. The paint is solid and will not drop off, I can say it represents the cracked shellac of the museum modelsROTF

Kind Regards

Nigel

I envy members (in a good way) who are masters to paint, and you, mon ami, are one of them. If I didn't know the barrels and carriages are 3D printed, it is no way to say that. The question, however, is why would you show oxidized barrels and perfectly clean (like new) carriages?

I was mostly concerned about the paint flaking off (or perhaps wondering if you would tell me to flake off). Though, just so you know, I am a skilled user of a dental mirror ROTF...

Thanks Jim

The cannons oxidise at an alarming rate compared to the carriages showing signs of age.

I have machined bronze in the past and it starts the oxidisation process immediately

In addition the French were repurposing cannons at this time so there is every chance that whilst the ship was new the cannons themselves would have already been used on another vessel

From what I have read, not the case with French ships of this period, English, yes

Don’t know how clued up they were back then but polishing the cannons would be a mistake. Bronze oxide forms a protective layer that prevents further corrosion

The muzzles are looking great - BRAVO (I could not make it better (that is a joke) - I could never acchieve this appearance)
I am looking forward how you make the knot at the ends of the breeching lines - the material is looking so strong and stiff

My research says that the connection to the ring isn’t a knot, the rope is folded over and has three separate woldings

Uwe
This is what I had in mind but the illustration I have seen has no splicing.I am not certain you can splice cable laid rope and have not seen any illustrations anywhere for spicing this type of rope

Kind Regards

No splicing is shown in the sketch - the ending is laying parallel

The gun barrels are looking really really good. The painitng of the carriage is top, but I am in the moment not sure if it looks as great as alone with the timber of the model.

This is a valid point Christian but I am confident it will a blend once everything is together.

Kind Regards

Nigel
