Steam pinnace Janet

I looked up 7 Zap Epoxy and was unable to find anything unusual about it. Epoxy is considered to be neutral to commonly used paints; ie, when fully cured it does not react with them. Some formulations of Epoxy do, however, form what is known as an Amine Blush that can interfere with subsequent coatings. Instructions, therefore, suggest washing down cured Epoxy surfaces with detergent before painting.

You can get inert barrier sprays that will lock in the remnants of old paint allowing you to start again with a compatible system.

Here in the US there is a company named Zinnser(sp?) that sells Shellac based coatings. Their line includes a white pigmented Shellac used prior to finish painting to coat stains that will bleed through. Maybe it’s just as simple as priming with Shellac. I’m just speculating so I don’t guarantee results!

At any rate, I would sand sown that primer.

Once it’s built someone is going to look at it for a couple of decades. Better get it right. There’s no half way that will lead to satisfaction.

My bit. But everybody has their own bit when it’s related to creation.

Hello All,
This time I was concentrating on the aft area.
Did some glue up and dry fit of some planks
This will be epoxyed with the hull and need to be careful fitted
Also I designed the capstan from photos
The position on ship will influence the little brass bits

Hello All
I wanted to finish the aft section of my ship so I prepared 2 pieces of cherry wood for carving
Sadly one part is a liitle bit larger than the other so it will jump in the eye but that is
These parts will be covered with resin so after finishing I will go to do a layer of 7 zip to reseal the hull
Depending of the weather
Kind regards, Daniel

Morning All,
Today I examined the hull after a 7 zap epoxy layer. I was worried a bit because was still a little tacky after 5 hours !
But in the morning was ok
Today after work will prepare for primer and if I have time will do one layer or two

Hello All
The work for Janet is progressing slowly - very little time to play and lower temps affect the time to dry .
I did a primer layer , light sanding , more filling with some auto putty and second layer of primer
Next will be the colours but it will be one a day to reach maximum hardening of the surface

Hello All
I identified the culprit , I put some putty on the aft section between the two wooden pieces and because the low temp has not cured proprely!
And some fumes are interacting with spray paint
So I scrapped the piece and will prime again and wait some 24 hours for the white

I'm glad you found the problem Daniel, it's annoying when this is happens, but will be all good in your capable hands,
Best regards John,

Hello,
I did some work on Janet , first I use my airbrush to give white a boost , after that I returned to spray can white
Now is almost good so I use vallejo masking liquid to spare the white parts and preparing for the black
Will see how it's going
Daniel
