Syren 1803 1:64 Model Shipways

Hmm...rigging guns...right at the very bottom of things I enjoy about ship modeling...

Maybe I could turn it into an Admiralty style build and omit the carronade rigging? :D.

Even below tying multiple ratlines over and over and over again!?

Thanks Kurt, now I know I’m in for a restless night of nightmares ROTF.

Absolutely! Ratlines are mindless repetition - rigging guns was frustration upon frustration with the hooks falling off the various eyebolts, handling 2 mm or 2.5 mm blocks, etc...

Thanks Paul, more nightmares! ROTF

Carronades continued:

Just a small update with the 16 carronades now constructed and temporarily positioned. Next up is the frigging rigging ROTF.

Good morning Roger. Classy. Looking very good .
Hmm...rigging guns...right at the very bottom of things I enjoy about ship modeling...
Paul is most certainly not alone with this. Roger we will get your thoughts on this after you have rigged those 16 carronades.;)

I have to rig my guns fully on the current project in order to conceal the wonky wheels and other inaccuracies in their construction. Rigging has its uses…

Hi Smithy, I know what you mean. I guess we have all become adept at the art of concealment. One of my for’d carronade swivel sills is a tiny bit too high. So I carefully cut a “rabbet” into the bottom of the sled to lower it and then butted it to the swivel. Then I had to add a tiny strip of wood at the ass end, above the wheels, to raise it to make it level. I too am hoping ropework will hide it all from roving eyes ROTF.

...at least, you don't have to rig 100+ guns ;)
…..and therefore my next build will be a Jolly boat ROTF.

I have one of those, Santisima Trinidad, but fortunately most of them are hidden, so I just have the top deck to do.
I call that sensible planning :D.

…..To rig or not to rig: - That's the question.

…… and Jim kindly provides an excuse and the questionable support to not rig ROTF.

rumour has it that if you use a green cutting mat then it will negate any transgressions that may occur during your build ay @Jimsky?
True story and you will become a member of TGMUA (The Green Mat User Association), along with any transgressions or omissions, you can put the abbreviation in your signature. ROTF ROTF ROTF ROTF

October is nearly over so definitely time for an overdue update. I spent a lot of time working out how I was going to pre-rig the breeching rope and tackle for the carronades. At 1:64 I struggled with the tiny ropework but reached a solution that works for me.

A single photo showing the protracted progress so far, including practice runs. Paul @dockattner was correct calling it “purgatory”, which tells me where the word “whipping” comes from ROTF.
