Syren 1803 1:64 Model Shipways

I love the color palate of your ship. The deck color with the red and black is simply breathtaking.

Rigging guns. Ugh (ugh, ugh, ugh).

Thanks Paul. You always find something positive to say and it’s very much appreciated. I keep walking away from that carronade rigging (ugh) and then get distracted with other ship parts and my books. It’s time to get a long overdue move on with this build.

Well I have had similar issues looking parts. You never know when you will find them later, as they stick your finger or show up when you walk barefoot in the shop.

But never when your looking for them.

I have no doubt we all have those disappearing parts “zinging” across our workspaces. Time for Micro-Mark to come out with a model makers catchers mitt :D.

Health issues have kept me from the workbench these past few weeks but a half hour here and there sees tiny progress. I planned on rigging all three tackles for each carronade for a total of 48 sets but have revised my intentions. I have already made 20 sets of tackle for the carronades. However, after rigging just one frustrating carronade today I think I’m going to stay with just the side tackle to reduce clutter but still show a representation.

I decided not to show coils of line on deck either. On a gun tackle such as this I feel the haul would simply be tied off when not needed. Of course that all depends on what we, as modellers, are trying to show. So I kept it simple by taking a turn around the hooked eyebolts on the sled base and left the tails slack. Using simple tackle of this size does not need long lengths of haul line operationally. I’m open for comments though because this has been a highly topical subject in model ship building for decades.

Thanks for following along.

Hello Heinrich, good to hear from you and thanks for your comments. I enjoy progressing in a somewhat orderly fashion but find it can slow my pace somewhat. However, my bench is another matter as attested by my wife :).

Good afternoon Roger. I hope you are feeling better. I am not a fan of coils so I do like your neat look although I prefer the “haul”/falls”tied off. (Just my preference).Your bindings on the breach lines is fabulous. Cheers Grant

Thanks Grant I appreciate your input. I suddenly went down with polymyalgia so time at the bench is very much “on again - off again” for the moment. I agree about those tail ends being tied off rather than coils. Always a matter of choice but I leaned towards practicality.

Lovely work Roger! I love that you have no openings on the edges of the gratings up against the coamings and head ledges. One thing, for the future, the battens on the gratings always ran fore and aft rather than athwartships. :)

Hi Allan, I read a post you made a little while back about the battens running fore and aft. Checked mine at that time, muttered crap, as I realized my error but decided to leave as is and take note for my next build. Thanks for the well received help and advice. A lot of us benefit greatly from your knowledge.
