Vasa - 1:65 DeAgostini [COMPLETED BUILD]

Hello Dear Friends,

I'm more than a little embarrassed over how much attention I have drawn to myself with my passing comment to Christos. But more than that, I am deeply moved by your kind words and well-wishes. We all face challenges in life so even as I share what we are dealing with I know that so many of you face difficulties as well.

This little guy is grandson #2. His name is Damian.

Damian has had a rough go of it thus far. He spent the first several weeks of his life in the neonatal intensive care unit. We didn't even get to see him until he was two weeks old (partly pandemic and partly his frailty). Even while in-utero he was diagnosed with a 'mass' in his left lung. He has a rare condition that sometimes terminates the pregnancy, but God had another plan and he got to breath real air in his life. Indeed, he has thrived. He is sweet, quick to smile and laugh (sorry, crying as I write this) and happy to be the center of attention.

Late this week he will have a difficult procedure to remove the upper lobe of his left lung. We have known about this need for some time, but the surgery has been delayed for a variety of reasons (insurance, pandemic, availability in his hyper-specialist's schedule, etc.). But it has all gotten very real for my family now that he is on the schedule. If he survives the procedure, recovery will still be difficult for him. He will remain in the hospital for a while. God is faithful, but his grandpa is scared.

Working on a trivial thing like a ship model just hasn't been something I want to do. This is unexpected for me as I used my ship as a sort of therapy as my dad was dying this past year. Not so much this time around.

Anyway, that's our situation.

I know that many of you have your own 'life issues' and I would love to pray for you if that would be helpful. Just PM me the details and we'll interact. Peace.
Dear Paul
I join the prayers of all the friends that your sweet and beautiful grandson Damian will successfully undergo the medical procedure and that you will all have good health and peace of mind.

I don’t know that this will necessarily help with the rigging, but it is fascinating and of general interest to all Vasa builders:

Hi Paul,

I’m backtracking a little, and realizing just now that I missed your earlier post about Damian. I am sorry for that circumstance, as well as your Dad’s passing. He looks like such a vibrant little guy - I’m praying all goes well.

Paul, all my prays goes to your grandson. A was not following your thread because rigging is something I hate and when discussions turned too technical I stopped reading it. Bottom line I wasn't aware of your issues. All will be fine with the surgery.

Daniel

Wow! Just saw this…and I can surely empathize with you Paul. Our grandchildren are so precious and special. I believe God has a plan for him, and I think he has so much more in store for him. So hang in there and know our prayers are with him and you. Waiting to hear the good news. Family before hobbies always! ;)

Hey Paul- My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and Damian. Take hope and encouragement in your faith Paul knowing that Damian is a gift from God. Not an easy time and especially that helpless feeling. You guys have got this ! All the best- Grant

Dear Friends,

After an exhausting prayer-filled day yesterday I am relieved (ecstatic!) to report that Damian bravely fought through his difficult surgery. He was moved to a regular room last night and will remain in the hospital up to a month (hopefully LESS!). I can honestly say that your encouraging words were cycling around in my head yesterday and I was comforted. Thank you.

Here is my little guy getting ready for his big day:
