VOC ship The Prins Willem (scale 1:75) Year 1651

Starts to look more like a drum sander. Need to make an attachment for the DB250 motor, The roll need to be sanded in shape and a dust cover with suction. Not easy to make like it looks. Everything need to measurements and adjustments. I took paper strips to fine tune the wood segments to let al be perfectly square.

At the moment I'm working on the dust cover and wait for parts I ordered. Between motor and drum there is a fixed part. that is not a good idea. So I ordered a flex. shaft coupling. So the end result will wait for a while

Thanks for asking Paul, yes something I will soon.
It's going pretty well at the moment, less pain. Only strong withdrawal symptoms from the morphine. Almost done with that. One of the many symptoms I have trouble with, is shaking hands, something I've never problems with. Even with building the sander it gives problems. But over one week I'm done with the morphine after more than 2 years of use and that will open the window to start again with the rigging. You know you gonna need steady hands to work on these small parts. The withdrawal symptoms where the only obstacle now.

By the way, the sander is almost ready, just waiting on parts (flex. shaft coupling)

Some how shrouds and ratline are difficult to start with. So I "leave the knife in the pork" (Dutch expression) for a while. There are enough things to do on the ship. One of them are the sails. @kirill4 mentioned this post in @dockattner Paul's Vasa. So I ordered Filmoplast R to give it a try.

First I measure the width of the cloths, I made a cutting help on a glass plate with tape and a small iron ruler to have something to hold the ruler against when I cut/roll the filmoplast R
The photos speak for themselves.

Then I put these cloths on a glass plate with the glue (shiny) side up and fixed the with a piece of painters tape. Sorry for the bad photo, next time I make a better one. But you can clearly see that the strips overlap a bit.

then I put a sheet of sailcloth on top (I use voile cotton)

and with a little Iron I started it to glue it together.

I did just one side to see what happens when the ironing is done. (this takes time because the glue needs time to melt to the cotton.

You can't see it on the picture but it is a little more shiny. Maybe you can see it in the next picture

The next thing I have to do is put the backside on and some details.

Is is not an easy job to do, but the first result looks good to me. When I finished I think about it, if I do the sails like this or I'm gonna sit behind the sewing machine. I also need a better light box. The led plate what is mean for diamond painting is a piece of junk. So my next project could be a light box.

Thanks Heinrich, yes it is a fine method to do. Especially for small ships like your WB. The German forum says this to. They only use silk cloth instead of cotton. But the voile cotton is very thin And I got it in my drawer. And something for you to do, when your hulls are ready and you are still in China. :)
