Thank you!...now, he is showing some teeth. We have been warned! Not really a carving specialist, but he looks great, now you can apply for a dentist job.![]()

I looked at pictures of Lions, and they have some vicious teeth!Dean, that lion is right in line with the season! A vampire lion! Just kidding you man, it definitely looks more aggressive than the laughing lion he was before…. That’s such a great asset to have access to 3D carvings now, takes kitbashing and scratch building to a new level! Wonder how long it will be to be able to submit a drawing or a photo of what you want ( like all the stern carvings on an elaborate frigate) and have it carved in your scale and choice of wood….
Now the happy monkey has fangs. Good work "doc" Do you work with walk-ins or appointments only? After a few hours under magnification…I took some of his smile away and added some teeth. I also started cleaning up and refining some areas.
Here is the before…

Now I have to get back to planking the deck before I get too distracted with the figurehead!![]()
Terrific! Nice piece of art. After a few hours under magnification…I took some of his smile away and added some teeth. I also started cleaning up and refining some areas.
Thank you Johan! I’m trying…lol. Really hard at this scale! I’m mainly using an xacto knife. I have some tiny riffler files on order that should help.Terrific! Nice piece of art.![]()
Very impressive, that's for sure.Thank you Johan! I’m trying…lol. Really hard at this scale! I’m mainly using an xacto knife. I have some tiny riffler files on order that should help.
Very convincing dentures!!! RichI did a little more work on the figurehead. Added lower teeth and fangs in front, added some detail to the hair. Started adding some gold paint to see how it’s going to look. Will have to start on the crown soon, after I do some more deck planking.

Thanks, not sure if I want to paint the eyes? Will experiment when I am further along. You have clearly found a new dimension for your modeling. At least now the lion is getting a look. What just 2 pupil can do(besides the teeth).
And a nice distraction between the repeating planking.
Regards, Peter
True, maybe less is more...lol
Thank you, I appreciate the comment, but I am not half as good as the some of the people with years of carving experience! Look at the Printz Friderich by Karl! I hope to be able to do that one day...I am just getting started with some basic stuff, but I am hopeful! There are some builders among us raising the bar for modeling to unattainable levels, at least for the mere mortals among us.
Again Dean, awesome work on the lion!
Thank you for your input Paul, I tend to agree!I vote for NOT painting the eyes.
Looking with an amazement of "OMG" or with a twinkle of "I've Gotcha!" RIchI would vote to paint the eyes. If done in a subtle l way (and I do not know how to do it) the lion could possibly appear to be looking at you. Maybe??
Yes! And I am also for no painting the outside. For lower details it made the accents.Ok…Mr Happy is gone…lol. I think I managed to make him look more ferocious. I made some wrinkles on the nose, subtle but there. I painted antique copper in the mouth over the black for a more subtle darkening. Karl agreed NO to painting the eyes. Therefore I made the cornea around the pupils stand out more in the eyes. I think I am finally happy with the results. Now back to planking…until later.
Mr Happy…
