Bluenose I - YuanQuin 1:72 - Loracs (in progress)

The nice part with those CAD software's is that, in principle, they are working alike. Once you learn one... it mostly a matter of interface design differences. So far, I'm going around the 10 editable files limitation by changing the "read-only" flag back and forth on a needed basis. "Read-only" component/parts can still be use in a sub-assembly/assembly has such. If it became an issue, the switch can be done.

Deck beam: I'm back to the build. I installed the 3 deck support beams. You can see in the close-up more details on the modified front deck, much lower to later accommodate the bunkbeds. Similarly, at the back, the floor of the captain's room. It was then time to add some Linseed oil to the area below the main deck. All the tiny nails are starting to show up. It is quite amazing how linseed oil enhances the detail, plank definition and nails.... it almost looks like laser etched.

yea! this is the first build I used it. It indeed brings everything to life. I was very conservative in the past but @Peter pictures convinced me to give it a try. It does darken the wood a little... but the color is nice.

It’s looking very nice with the upcoming treenails, Loracs.
Regards, Peter

Half-Decks: I decided to build the half-decks off the ship. This gives me a first opportunity to practice with Fusion 360 and design the plan based on precise measurements from the bluenose. Plans are drawn, cut and test fit. The decks are then built by side-gluing 3mm strips. The decks are slightly longer than needed, so later I can cut them precisely to the side walls. As a bonus for future builders, you will find my cross-beam measurements on the plans.

Note: Many may already know this but most printers do NOT print at 1:1. After several trials and errors, I found that mine needs to be set at 102% to print at the appropriate scale.

Mid-section deck: It just takes a little longer to do. Just remember when building, to adjust planks junction to the cross beams. As with before, it was cut longer than needed for future adjustment. Lastly, waiting for the glue to cure before handling to much --> the strips are side glue only. Once on the ship the deck will be supported /glue to the cross beams. As with the ceiling, I used a 5-steps for the spacing of the planks. Is it accurate? I could not find any more information... so I just picked one.

Note: the plan in the picture below is not quite flat on the table after I remove it from the gluing table. It appears distorted, in addition to parallax from the lens. The cross beams are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the planks.

Greeting @dockattner, I did not notice on the pictures.... but you are right. However, it is just the camera lens distortion. The cross beams on the plan are straight and parallel. Furthermore, I think that when I took the last picture the plan was a little bit deformed (upward slightly is some area after I remove the tape). Thanks for noticing, other may have been wondering too. Let me add a note to the previous post.
