My experience with small areas of my stripe "lifting" has made me proceed as conservatively as possible to minimize the risk of lifting the stripe once I remove my 2mm tape after spraying black.

I brushed on a very thin coat of 1:1 Mr. Color GX100: Leveling Thinner and let it overlap the stripe a bit to help seal the edges. As expected through feedback, this first coat "found" a couple of weakly bonded areas in the form of a few tiny bubbles that gradually flattened as the mixture softened the acrylic, then cured. The GX100 will also be my final clear coat so I've now applied two coats and the stripe is laying flat. The mix leveled nicely so my sprayed final clear coat will tie everything together. Now I'll wait a couple days to make sure everything is fully cured before (nervously) applying tape!
