Cheap Chinese Halcon speed build [COMPLETED BUILD]

What is a tricorn hat?
Tricorn is the incorrect but modern popular term for a corned hat. A corned hat is a round brimmed hat with bent upwards in three points, and it's the most common hat style of the 18th century. In short, this thing:

The fancy round bow on the side is called a cockade, the color and style of which was used by colonial American to distinguish what type of military service or regiment they belonged to, instead of insignia on a uniform coat, which were not available to colonials until late in the revolution (rebellion). For soldiers, the hat was rotated 45 degrees to the side so the front peak of the hat won't be hit by your musket and knocked off your head during reloading. Those not involved in fighting with a firearm wore the hat as shown above.

Hey Kurt,

Did your kit come with brass cannon barrels? Mine did not. I got flat barrels made from a sheet of wood! I know you're trying to not add a bunch of cost to your kit, but HiS models has a block set for this kit and it comes with pretty nice blocks. It also has a rigging plan with it. The blocks are REALLY small. :D

Yep, just waiting for this to arrive so will be tying knots for Christmas!

Thanks a million for this info! Got this kit and went mad ordering upgrade kit and a complete rigging kit from a Czech company. Am currently researching techniques as this is also my first plank on frame woody thing build. Your posts have been an inspiration sir and I take off my tricorn hat to you!
Thank you kindly, sir! I had to order Lennarth Pederson's book on rigging ships with fore-aft sails so I can figure out the proper rigging to add to this tiny schooner model.

Well bust my buttons! If I graduated in 1776 instead of 1976, I might have known. Cheap Halcon ship is looking good. I appreciate all of the people on this SOS sight that keeps me entertained, and informed. Especially when (TKAM) HMS Surprise said shrouds should be served. Served? And I only found out the answer later with Donnys post on sails being scuffed or worn by hitting the shrouds. Who would have known? Now I do'. Buying a small lathe tomorrow because I have too. Spread sheet on hobby coming up soon. Time for a little snicker of CR and snooze. Love this sight.

Only the front most shroud is served along its entire length, to protect from sail wear.

Looking at what pops up on my Microsoft page, the price of this little kit has been jacked up two to four times over the last month!

This little model looks like a great platform for kit bashing and honing your scratch building skills, without going into debt. (If you can still get it for below twenty bucks.) at the $12.-$14. price you could afford to screw up a few.

Reminded me of a song we learned in German language class in the fourth grade...'Mein Hut Hast Drei Ecken'
