I continued with constructing the part of the bulwark that gave shelter to the riflemen. It is still work in progress. On the outside a profiled slat will later be attached, but only after I have painted the outside of this section. Mind you, it hasn't been glued down yet, so still will get some refinement. Gluing will also happen after the painting is done. Then the door and fittings will be installed.

Hey Herman,

She looks so beautiful. I'm blown away. Your work is truly a dream. I'm a big fan of beautiful things, and your D7P is absolutely gorgeous. :D First Place Metal

Nice work on the bulwark, Herman. And those scuppers looks very realistic.
Regards, Peter

Good morning Herman. Brilliant. Your finish and the way the grain of the wood is exposed makes this eye candy. Cheers Grant
Thank you Grant.
The fact that construction has been halted for five months does have a slight advantage, as the pearwood has darkened a shade, which, in my opinion, looks much better. After I've painted the lower wales, the hull will get some further treatment. I have a can of Clou sealer, which has already produced excellent results on several build logs.

It seems like I'm jumping around a bit regarding the construction sequence, and that's probably true. I now wanted to complete the interior planking of the main deck bulwark. To do that, I wanted to install the deckclamps for the quarter deck first on the aft portion of the deck and then fill the remaining space with planking. At the same time the deckclamps for the forecastle were installed.

I admire those who create the 'pockets' for the beams in the clamps. Thus far I have 'cheated' and notched the beams themselves. Bravo, Herman!
Thank you Paul. Kind of hard to believe you cutting corners in your build;).
My caliper's battery was dead, so I made a single provisional beam the same thickness as the future deck beam and made all the notches fit to take that beam. The advantage is that when I make deck beams now, I can plane them to the exact width.

I was thinking more in terms of beam locations along the length of the ship. You have to be very precise to cut the pockets ahead of time - and then install the clamps in perfect longitudinal symmetry, Again, I admire the approach.

Ah, I understand.

It might give the impression that the locations of the notches are more or less free to choose, but you are right that you have to check a lot of things in before you install those deck clamps with pre-cut notches:
- deck clamps in line and on the correct height for the quarterdeck gunports
- the notches directly opposite each other on the port and starboard side
- the notches have to be located so that the future deckbeams run free of the main mast and they also determine the position of the gratings/stairs and whipstaff
- future hanging knees for those deckbeams must not cross the position of the gunports on the maindeck.

(and keep it level port / starboard side)

So a lot to consider before you cut the notches and install the deckclamps.
