Good morning my ship building friends. Thank you very much. I cannot believe a year has flown by so quickly- it is insane.

A quiet wonderful birthday with the family was had - Dinner on the beach and loads of reminiscing.

Good morning.

I have started to work on the hull and deck structural changes I want achieve. I do have plenty of concerns due to my inexperience and the fact that there are no plans to work from- just my imagination.

Design and symmetry:
Note: Everything is dry fitted and no “fairing” for symmetry done.

False keel and stern.
1. Stern and false keel extension.

Besides extending the length I also want the hull planking to be less linear. Red arrow is the kit, Green my plan. The wales are also going to follow the deck curve rather than be linear as the kit plan.
How I am going to get the gun ports to follow the curve of the deck is going to be a mission o_Oo_O. Problem for another day.
Rough cut outs

Dry fitted :
The Green arrow reflects the planking pattern while the red triangle the narrowing area of the false keel. (It won’t need to be so long) Test fitted some planks and all works rather nicely.

Extended deck:

Changing Transom :
I originally was going to modify the kit transom how ever I did need to remake this as I am going to put 2 cannons on the stern deck. The rudder slot and cannon ports need realignment and the transom needs to be a lot smaller.

Made a dummy cannon for test fitting:

All seems good.

It will take a while to now sand and shape so all fits nicely and symmetrical. Let’s see……

Cheers Grant

Now this is getting really interesting; modifying the hull lines.
Did you do any 3D surface modeling, to see how she'll look with your changes implemented?
There are examples around of beautifully lofted surfaces being modified for one purpose or another and turning out to be just a little bit off. Look for instance at the Jumbojet's stretched upper deck of the later versions, not really bad looking but esthetically not as appealing as the original upper deck. (My opinion, of course...)
Anxiously anticipating your future updates.

Good morning Grant. You made my day starting well. I like this kind of building ‘out of the box’. AL-FI says: Yes. François introduced in his build-log ‘Builder’s Leeway’. So BL-AL-FI says also: YES. :)
Regards, Peter

I understand the green lines for your hullplanking. It is possible, keep in mind this is a mid-18th century vessel. The curvature of the wales are a bit less comparing to say early 17th century ships. However, it's still possible to do so. The natural curve of the bulkheads allready follows your green lines a bit...
