Thank you everyone. Still working on the 1st planking. About 1/2 finished and hope to completely finish today. I enjoy model ship building so much. Wish I wouldn't have stopped 40 years ago. With the tools we now have and the quality of the kits, building a ship is so much more fun.
Finished planking the hull and have begun to smooth it. Next is to shape the bow and sides and continue smoothing the hull.
Looks very promising Rob. Take your time - this step is really critical.

Darn. I really did something wrong. I stood the ship upright and measured the gunports. I was planning on keeping all the gun doors shut. So, I'll correct the port side holes.

Easily repaired. Good catch! That would have been hard to hide.
I marked the profile on the ship. Don't know how many times I measured. Often different each time. Think I finally got it. Losing confidence in my ability to do things right. But, hasn't deterred my enthusiasm. 
What is the best way to cut the profile out?

Cut out the awkward shape at the bow and one side. Went well.
Use a super sharp razor knife or coping saw to cut just outside the line, then sand with a rough grit sanding block gently along the edge, not perpendicular to it or *SNAP!*, until you reach the pencil line. A power sanding tool may be used if you have very steady hands and you are careful. Hand sanding the final passes is safest.
