HMS ALERT 1777 cutter POF by shota70 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Glad you are back at the bench. I will be following along as per usual.

good evening dear friends
After 3 weeks of break, today I finally returned to work on the model. I admit I missed it. I decided to adopt the idea that the boards that were painted yellow in wale, will be replaced by boards made of boxwood. First I started by injecting alcohol on the boards at the point of attachment to the frames. I then slowly removed the plaques using a scalpel knife and dentist's accessories.

In the next step, I started preparing 1.7 mm thick boxwood boards from which I will create the boards for the new planking according to the original board from the kit.

I admit that I didn't know how difficult it was to cut a block of birch wood, later it turned out that I had to change the cutting disc to a thinner one. When I tried to reach the required thickness using Proxxon's Thicknesser DH 40, I realized again that it is not suitable for such a task because it leaves marks on the wood.

To my delight, in the coming days I will finish preparing a new Thicknesser for delicate tasks (I will attach details and pictures in the coming days separately).
I did not make significant progress, but I wanted to share with you that I am back on track with the creation of the model.
Good morning Shota. Always good to have a break and I am happy you had a good time…it is great to see you back in the shipyard tho. Cheers Grant

good evening dear friends
Tonight I continued to make the new parts of the wale from boxwood. Today I used for the first time a sanding machine that I made with a friend for the purpose of sanding wood panels as thin as 0.5 millimeters and even less. See noda that I opened on the subject in the following link,
Today I took the boards that I sawed at a thickness of 2.3 mm and machine sanded them to a thickness of 1.67 mm. The machine sanding removed the marks of the saw and what Proxxon's thicknesser DH 40, which isn't suitable for fine sanding of wood with small thicknesses of 2-0.5 mm (leaves marks on the wood). I then used the original board to draw the lines of the old parts and in the next few days I will gently cut them with a saw.
Another tiny step in the long and enjoyable journey, good night everyone

Very nice Shota, very good choice
Thank you dear friend Thumbsup :)
The only problem is that in the process of sawing and sanding I lose a lot of material of wood/boxwood
that is not found in my country, and each piece is almost like a precious stone to me.
I will probably have to return to visit Europe/Germany to get this tree :D:cool:
or I will start a campaign to collect donations of the tree (of course the shipping cost is on me). So here is this opportunity dear friends, everyone who has a boxwood tree left and wants to donate, so you know where to find me :D:cool::)Thumbsup
thanks in advance

good evening dear friends
Tonight I continued to make the new parts of the wale from the boxwood boards that I made it yesterday.
First I sawed the boards according to the drawing I made on the boxwood boards, and as our friend Uwek recommended I kept a distance from the outline of the shape.

In the next step, I approached the work of sanding the boards (I used a variety of manual and electric sanders). The process took almost 3 hours until I reached an almost perfect correlation of the new parts to the space of the originals in the large panel of the wale parts from the kit.

I was not satisfied with that and examined the parts above the hull together and indeed came to an almost perfect match. I will do the final finishing touches in the coming days and also in the preparation towards gluing them to the model.
I know this is a small step, the process and striving for improvement/correction and accuracy will contribute to the quality of the result.
Good night everyone :)

I think the boxwood is an excellent idea. I will keep holding thumbs that everything works well in the preparation stage. Like all of our members, I look forward to see the result when planked.

Looking forward to see the boxwood planks on the hull.
Very good work - these new planks will look much better on the hull

my dear friends
thank you very much for the kind words and Encouragement :)

good evening dear friends
Today I made progress in creating the wale from boxwood. Initially, I cleaned the remaining glue left on the frames and the black board and also painted with a fine brush the black board in the areas where the paint had worn off.
I then installed the new boards I had made as well as applied madung wax to them. I still need to make the screws/nails.
