HMS ALERT 1777 cutter POF by shota70 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Happy holiday friends
Today, to my delight, I achieved another step in the creation of this beautiful model.
This is of course an intermediate result in the lower deck area, but it gives me the satisfaction of having a long and enjoyable "ant work" as it develops.
One of the challenges for me was maintaining balance/alignment in the distances and angles between the bulkhead and the additional rooms as well as a continuous rising height of the beams that will support the upper deck. Another challenge was adjusting the edges of the partitions to the changing walls of the ship.
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves
Regards Shota

Wonderful Shota.

Hello dear friends
As I wrote the other day, I'm starting work on the furniture for the officers' rooms and warehouses. The first piece of furniture I'm starting to create is the officers' trunk, I'm attaching a sample photo I took from our friend Maarten's blog.

I chose a slightly different creative method from him. First I took a round stick with a diameter of 1.67 cm,
I spread it into 3 pieces 2 cm long. After that, I cut three areas with an electric saw to create the sides, so that an upper part remains in the shape of a third of a circle (it will be used for the box lid).
I decided to wall the luggage box with wooden boards of two different Kinds & thicknesses, walnut for straight sides with a width of 3 mm and for the rounded lid with dark maple with a width of about 2.5 mm. I wanted to create difference along with closeness in shades.
I am satisfied from the result, I made sure to position the edges of the boards on the wide sides, so that they cover those on the narrower sides as shown in the picture of the original box.
I'm still have to make two more in a different size and make the brass fitting parts including the locker, and then apply a layer of oil.
Regards Shota

You might try adding thin band at top of base and over the top of lid made from narrow tape.

I know in the US we have what is called "chart tape" for use in drafting and making wall chart dividers that makes good metal bands.

Dear Kurt
I would appreciate it if you could send a picture that illustrates your intention/advice, so that I can be sure that I'm understanding is correct.

Your chest is developing very nicely. Let's see what treasures it will house.

Hello dear friends
Today I made another travel box, when this time I made a fundamental change in the creation process. I split the wooden block in two, the body of the box and the lid of the box. After that I milled with the Mf70 the internal cavities of both. The challenge was in the lid, since it is necessary to produce a concave shape corresponding to the curvature of the lid. After that I glued the two different types of wood as in the first box and now both are waiting for the metal strips that kept the structure as well as the metal parts that made up the locking assembly. I am still toying with the possibility of creating a box similar to the original method.
Have a nice evening to all of us

hi Dear friends
In the last few days I am not working on the model because I am traveling in Japan, a really beautiful country and lovely people. In the meantime, I recommend that you watch my recommendation for a visit to the Maritime Museum in Koba as well as the Carpentry Art Museum.
