HMS Jalouse - Caldercraft by Ted

I made about 200 eyebolts at ,75mm inner diameter along with enough rings to do the cannons. Upon removing the clumbsy oversized ring bolts I keep breaking them off flush to the carriage frames. The simple eyebolts came out fairly easily as I hadn't added a drop of CA glue to the interior of the carriage.
I waffled, once again, on just accepting the rings being about ,7 mm larger but decided to hold my course and change out all the oversized hardware.
This will ea lot easier since the purchase of the Dremel drill press.IMG20250201111735.jpg

The planking plane and holder arrived. I hope it securely clamps the planks improving my work product.
It's a cute little plane.
The name carved on the plane translates to Gang Pai Noodle swirl Google translator

Cannons are blackened l. I like koe they came out partially showing the brass.
Haven't learned of I'm supposed to glue or solder the trunions yet still researching.
In the process of making a fixture to bent the brass strip the holds in the trunions.IMG20250202095229.jpg

If I silver solder the trunions on the cannons will it show up when using Brass Black?
Should I just use CA glue l?
If you silver solder them you need to file and othewise clean up the excess that may be on the barrel or trunnions. Epoxy would be a good choice as well, but no matter what you use you need to clean up residue from solder or glue before blackening the brass. Once cleaned up it is a good idea to pickle them in a pickling solution such as Sparex for five or ten minutes as well so the blackening is consistent over the entire piece.

Thank you l. I found the Sparex on Amazon. Ar you familiar with the shelf life on this product.
10 oz for $11 and 49oz for $16

The long awaited Amati master cut arrived this afternoon. I have been watching John Aliprantis use her a in YouTube for years. Mine won't even cut through the wood they provided in the box It cuts halfway through the.5 mm strip.
Their are no adjustments. This is a sore disappointment. I'm weak at making 90 degree cuts and hopes to up my game
Any suggestions on n making this work or a better device IMG20250203162646.jpgIMG20250203162706.jpgIMG20250203162711.jpgIMG20250203162703.jpg

With nothing to lose I completely disassembled the cutter, ground all of the edges that weren't flush and reassembled.
Working like a charm now. A surpriseing amount of flash and uneven parts

A razor saw and miter box. The miter box I have has slots for 90 degree and 45 degree cuts. Choppers are more like crushing than cutting. Sort of like the carpenters in the shipyard trying to cut the end of a plank with an ax instead of a saw. Something like the below.

Installed the bails provided as per plans for the trunion straps. They appear out of scale to me. I could cut off the nail heads but don't know how to make one smaller.
Maybe just insert a cut off nail, sans head, into the drilled hole in the strap.imnot happy with this resultIMG20250204145049.jpgIMG20250204145058.jpg

I tried to remove the nails but they were in pretty tight.
I was afraid I would break the gun carriage so I cut off the head of the nails
Jimsky's tutorial on the gun carriage shows a series of nails along the top of the carriage. I had intended on doing the same but the nails will ebe over 50 percent of the width of the carriage sides. It doesn't make sense to add it as adornment, if not to scale. I believe this will bey.level of detail in this build.
I'm content

This may not be of interest but just in case, the following shows there are no nails or such used. The pin and half ring are really easy to make with appropriate diameter copper or brass wire. The cap square needs to be able to be opened so it was never nailed down.

Now that I half of the cannons finished I'm going to start back on the hull.
I have all the tools in ordered and am anxious to get started.
The new Dremel rotary tool I bought is making a grinding sound and surges at low speed. The workstation (drill press) has a rough spot on the plunger like a gear set missing a tooth.
Dremel warranty is sending me replacement units. It seems like quality control in manufa is delegated to the end userIMG20250206173312.jpg nowadays. All my pretty little cannons in row.
