HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Good morning, Grant.
The little boat looks great on the deck. And the overall appearance……… I had already posted, it looks impressive. Now even more.
Regards, Peter
Good evening Peter. Thanks. At this stage each photo just has more lines and ropes. It can get a bit monotonous for you guys as I just show more ropes, hanks and coils.Redface. Rigging a ship of the line sometimes seems like “Action- play- repeat” Cheers Grant

Hi Grant, you should consider making a stop motion animation of your rigging.
Imagine, seeing the whole process in satisfying increments :D

Truly impressive model.
With every step towards completion I find it increasingly more difficult to wrap my mind around the fact this is your first build.
As far as the new company is concerned; how about a first project, a cheatsheet: how to scratch build your own launch (or chaloup, or whatyoumightcallit).

Good evening. After trying one or two slack, hanging braces, I decided to stick with my original plan of keeping them loose but very little or no hang.

I have almost completed the fore and main course braces. I also decided to include the preventer braces as well.

No confused explanations just pics :

Wow your Victory is immaculate Grant, well done! Wonderful attention to detail.

Good morning Johan. Thanks. I am starting to get myself tangled a little. I always knew this would happen as using the Mantua (limited rigging) plans when I made the belay pin racks there was going to be too few. I thought I could make a plan - well it has become interesting to say the least- rookie at work for sure. Cheers Grant

Good morning.

I have had to put the yard braces for the main course on hold. I need buy a new 0.5mm drill bit- dropped and broke mine.

Researching the lower main and fore yard for Cluelines, tacks and sheets.

These all run through 3 blocks in a span below the yards- there will 4 of them. Here is a picture on the Victory. I need to see how these go.

Once I've completed all the bits and pieces on deck, I'll have to do exactly that; decide upon sails/no sails (tentative wíth sails), which rigging plan I want to use and make an inventory of modifications that are required to make it all work. Still quite a few challenges head....

All this rigging without sails is confusing for me. I know why you didn't want to include them (sails) - and I absolutely agree with that decision - but without the sails it's hard for me to envision how to rig lines that exist solely for the purpose of sail control... Too late now to walk back that decision so I'll just sit here scratching my head (as you must be doing as well ;)).

Good morning Paul. It has been fun working out how to rig these sail control lines. Clearly the belay points are the same. For the end which attach to the sails, my approach has been 2 fold.
1. I make a joggle on the end of the line which ends at the last block before it would connect to, or go around the sail (mainly for the cluelines and buntlines) and ;
2. The sheet and tack lines I run through the required blocks and "sail" end it is tied to the yard).

The brace and preventer brace lines are as normal.

I have stuggled to illustrate this in my build log and I realise I am confusing guys more than myself ROTF.

I am really glad I made the call to "fully" rig the Victory as it has been fun learning and researching all the rigging. It also has made Grants Victory very busy and I like that. My biggest issue is the belay points which I have too few of. (Lesson learnt if one decides to "modify" or go beyond instructions one has to start from the beginning of the build process and have a good research reference.).
Cheers Grant
