HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

I reccomend changing blade for Proxxon one it will save you a lot of wood(and frustration;)). I also used caliper instead of printed scale. Lathe is acually quite good

Nice job with bouys. Many mistakes only author can see, so don't wory. 0,2mm diffrence won't ruin such great model
Good morning. Thanks. I agree with you, I think the blade on the saw won’t last long either. I will have to play a little and see how it goes. Re the bouy line. It looks fine to the eye with the larger diameter. I will leave it for a while to see if it frustrates me or not.

Cheers Grant

Hi Grant hope you had a very merry Christmas and best wishes for the new year. Great photos all I can see now is how much work I have to do on mine, I'll be happy if it looks as good as yours.
Good morning Tony. Thank you. We had a wonderful Christmas and holiday. She is a beast of a ship. Loads of fun. You will really enjoy building this ship. Cheers Grant

Very sound idea!
Went through the last couple of pages of your blog; what an overwhelming, impressive build!
Like Heinrich said: hats off.
Good morning Johan. Thank you very much. I am looking forward to my Cazador (still away off). I do want to attempt a better woodworking model with more detail and neater work. It is a very clean, sleek ship and soooo much less intricate and complex than the Victory. Going to be fun for sure:D:D. Cheers Grant

The barge is my favorite! I love the green and white. I think my next model should be a green and white one - let's go searching!
Mine too- it also came out so much better than the others even though I used the same methods to modify and construct each boat. I guess it depends which side of the bed I get out of ROTF .
Cheers Grant

A fine looking fleet Grant! But in truth I'm jealous that you still get to work on the big girl. Being 'in between' builds right now (redesigning my workspace; ordering wood, tools, and bits and baubles; doing research; reading books and build-logs) is fun but not as fun as creating something. Don't rush across the finish line - you have a very special project here that deserves your best effort!

I agree wholeheartedly, Paul, but on the other hand you have lots of to be excited about with that beautiful kit awaiting you. :)

Good morning Paul. True story. It’s like a horse running for home. The “few” things left will take a long time and I have found the need to bring myself back a couple of times and still do some redo,s. Your example of thorough research is a major contribution to making a fine model. Enjoy and I look forward to your next log….for sure! Cheers Grant

Good morning Heinrich. There have been times when I have had to put myself in restraining blocks. When I am fighting with the nest of ropes on my Victory the desire to play with wood on my new Xebec has been pretty overwhelming ROTF. Ricochet Rabbit Grant deserves a good whisky for not succumbing to that desire:D. Cheers Grant

Good morning. My last post of 2022. Man it has just flown by!!

May you all have a Happy New Year and may 2023 be a blast.ExplosionExplosionBottle.

Not much : Just the nun bouy for the port sheet anchor. I fitted the sheet anchor in the stowed position. A chain, sling and lashed to the channel.

Cheers Grant and again Happy new year all.

Hi Grant. Those buoys look SO good as does the rest of Grant's Victory. You can have more than one celebratory whiskey - one for the buoys, one for the fact that you resisted temptation and plenty more because it's New Year in Melkbosstrand!

Good morning. Playing with ships boats again. Made the cutter- tiny little jolly boat.

Here are some pics of the 4 boats. Only the Launch is finished. (I put a cannon into the launch to be taken to shore ROTF - not sure it will stay there tho)

Just gotta love these little whateveryoumightcallits.
Since I'm currently trying to assemble a couple of dories, I now know intimately what a nasty little buggers they are to build.
So kudos or your sloepen, nice work.
