HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Good afternoon. Started getting my main mast lower shrouds installed.

I fitted the dead eyes to the brackets I made and secured these to the port and starboard channels.

I then made sure each shroud was not tangled and in sequence and numbered each so there was no confusion.

I used the below Victory illustration for the whipping and when I come to do my lanyards.

The red arrows- Cautious. I gave 3 attempts at lashing the throat and seizing the end tip of the shroud by the dead eye. These came out irregular and untidy each time. Cudo’s to those who own this.

I decided to rather have something neat on Grants model than untidily correct so went with this. Done now can’t changeROTF

I checked the shroud positions and snugness around topmast as this will change the tension if not all correct and the dead eyes will not be linear to each other and the channel.

I will update when completed the port and starboard sides. Cheers Grant

Excellent work on the whipping of the shrouds - I fully agree with your sentiments here to finish it in the way that is the neatest? And who is to say that it is not correct as well? It is just different from the illustrations of that particular publication.

By the way, enjoy the Grand Prix tonight! It should be a good one!

Great to hear of your "clean bill of health" Grant. Also, that you are back with "Grant's" Victory! I always look forward to your progress reports!

Cheers,
Ken

Good morning.

Some pics : The Mizzen stays lashed through pendants are done. I tensioned the main forestay using a clip and the main mast shrouds (these are not tied off) so the Mizzen forestays can be tied off. The Mizzen back stays are not tied off for final tension after foremast is on.

Excuse the rum barrels on deck - playing with something to cover the bulwark cuts where deck not cool.

Cheers Grant
