HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Wow, nice pictures, Grant and the rigging looks superb! It was quite a bulky ship - one seldom sees a slab-sided picture of her like that. Size - on the one hand, I yearn for a model that size that when it comes to detailed articles and fine finishing - on the other hand, it is so nice to chuck the WB in my lap to work on her and to be able to twist and turn the hull in any direction I want.

Good morning.

Some pics : The Mizzen stays lashed through pendants are done. I tensioned the main forestay using a clip and the main mast shrouds (these are not tied off) so the Mizzen forestays can be tied off. The Mizzen back stays are not tied off for final tension after foremast is on.

Excuse the rum barrels on deck - playing with something to cover the bulwark cuts where deck not cool.

Cheers Grant

Grant I have been meaning to say for a while now, you a doing a great job on Victory, you have to be very proud of the improvement in your skill level. Well done sir.

Great work Grant you have taken on a giant and I am calling it now that you have won already.

Me I am not so brave as I only have this cut down version to build one day and your build will be my reference.

Hi Grant. Building a Victory is always impressive. You are making a great version and the rigging looks very nice and tight.
Regards, Peter
Good morning Peter. Thank you. I found your Bluenose build “hidden away” in the Bluenose group build. I have started going through it (100+ pages) and it is a quality build for sure- your comments are much appreciated. Cheers Grant

Good morning Jack. Thank you- still loads of improvement to go. When I look at some thingS I did early on it’s like I would never do that now. More care, more patience and more detail etc would have been put into now. I don’t think we ever stop improving. Appreciate your comments. Cheers Grant

Good morning Richie. You will enjoy that. Thanks for your comments- I do something’s right, some accurate and plenty like a rookie learning. When you start your cross section look for references if you want to get it accurate as all kits need changing. The Victory has so many nuances and even Caldercraft (most accurate kit out there) misses out loads. It will be fun to build the interior of each deck level when you tackle your cross section. Thanks again. Cheers Grant

Hello Heinrich. Thanks. It crazy this hobby. I get something’s so cool and others I just cannot do.Redface. There is always a way tho however how some of you guys get things spot on is a mystery to me.. Having so much fun tho and she is looking good to me. I can’t manage big, how you guys get so much detail in small is another mystery to meROTF.DISASTER STRUCK LAST NIGHT- state of emergency declared on my Victory- I will post just nowROTF. Cheers Grant

Grant's Victory is looking like a beast! Way to go my friend! The effort you are putting in is paying off for sure.
Good morning Paul. Way to go for sure- The amount of rigging on these ships is massive- If I had to do sails it would seem endless. I do like my Victory although I know my next ship will have far higher expectations from myself. Thanks for you always being there during this process has helped me loads. Cheers Grant

State of Emergency?

State of Emergency?
Good morning Heinrich When I went to my shipyard this morning this is what I found....state of emergency declared;)

@RDN1954 Johann, I did not like the look of itROTF. The top mast was broken off my lines all a mess with some of the tape I used to categorize these scattered on the floor. Some of the starboard cannon lids are broken off. (easy fix). Thank God that she did not fall off the table onto the floor. All I can assume is that our rescue cat (my daughter does these things) decided to have fun with all the loose rigging lines hanging downROTF.

My Victory went through Hurricane Ally Cat.

...and now she sits with me in my shipyard....little s&$t!!!

When I repair her I have decided to use larger and stronger insert dowels (previously used toothpicks) so this won’t happen again....although she will probably pull the whole ship on the floor if stronger:eek:

Nothing I can’t fix back to the way she was .

Cheers Grant

What a sore sight! I wish you best of luck with all the necessary repairs (and with your efforts to control yourself not to kill the cat...)

Ooooh Shit! That is a state of emergency. I love cats and one always see how peacefully they curl up when some of our members are busy building, but, unfortunately, there is also another side to it. Look at the bright side of it - now you can pay attention to those little items that you weren't 1000% sure of. Sorry my friend, I am trying to find a silver lining here - love your attitude though! Big thumbs up for that! Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup
