Model Shipways Massachusetts Privateer Rattlesnake

I finished the main mast euphroe block/rigging/crowsfeet. Ended up putting a thin layer of wood glue on the wood before drilling to avoid the wood splintering between holes. The euphoe has 5 holes as the on on the mizzen mast but I used 4 holes for the euphroe block lines the remaining hole for the tackle line.20211203_104416.jpg20211203_195615.jpg20211203_202302.jpg20211203_204150.jpg20211203_204240.jpg20211203_204249.jpg20211203_210603.jpg20211203_212140.jpg20211203_221847.jpg20211205_212219.jpg20211205_212234.jpg20211205_212241.jpg20211205_212246.jpg20211205_212253.jpg

Hi Paul. Came in late on your log(only been here for a few months) and your rattlesnake build is stunning. I appreciate the detail of your log and the explanation of techniques and methods is great. In particular the rigging (still to get there) techniques and advice from other guys gives me loads to ponder. Thanks.

I am not sure, if you prepare / install the template for the ratlines in the correct alignment.
The rat lines should be parallel to the waterline - from the perspective of the photo it is not visible, so therefore ignore my comment if it is like this
Good point.... They are parallel to the channel which is parallel to the waterline... I think, now I'm questioning myself.... The second picture is what I used to practice making the knots, it doesn't go on the ship. I used extra shroud lines and then tried various threads to figure out what I would use on the ship. They look like they are parallel to the deck...20211209_082712.jpg20211209_083559.jpg20211209_084039.jpg

Back when I was experimenting with serving the shrouds, I made one shroud that had glue on it before I served it. I determined that it was too stiff to use. The first picture is the served 'glue' shroud. The second picture is the flexible shroud that I used on the boat. The left shroud isn't stiff as can be seen on the left shroud. I'm going to try using the served 'glue' shroud method for the top mast and see if it makes a difference. 20211209_150223.jpg20211209_150306.jpg

I have been working on the boat. The ratlines are taking a lot of time. My biggest mistake was with the deadeyes and chainplates. Sasha mentioned some corrections but I really didn't understand what he meant until I started with the ratlines. It is pretty obvious to me now, my stay shroud placement really needs work. I am beginning to realize the effect of going by various plans, I need to stick with one and not mix them. I should finish the futtock stays this week and then I will go vertical.

I ended up visiting my brick that a grade school friend bought for me. We ended up having a pretty good snow right after New Years that knocked out the power for a few days. After 18 years, the Volvo still handles the snow like a champ.

Working on the futtock stays reminded me of the days when I was atechnical climber in the Marine Corps. Transitioning whole climbing from one angle to another was tough, it would have been much harder scaling that while a ship was moving. Kudos to those sailors.
