MY BLUENOSE- YUANQING SCALE 1:72 SCALE [COMPLETED BUILD]

Hi Lawrence,

You are absolutely right in saying that doing the same things over and over again gets you down. Working with a kit guarantees you the right measurements of all the pieces, but this YQ kit is a bit like working from plans!
I started building boats when I still didn't grow a beard and mustache, and there were only planes if you wanted to do something!
Now if someone else has already done it a little ... well, so much the better!

The important thing is to be able to still hold tweezers and cutters in your hand ....

Hello Piero, Thanks for your visit, for your nice comments that are so true. Yes this model ship building can be very challenging at times but also very rewarding also. Yes it is always nice to see other builds as it gives us so many different ideas to work with.

Hello Ship Mates, Well I have had the little fellows working fairly steady these last few days and we have built and de-charred another 8 frames and dry fitted them. Golly but she sure is showing some of her great lines. The end is in sight only 18 more to go. I believe that I will take a day or two off to give my hands a bit of time to recover, as they are getting a little sour again.

Beautiful progress, despite raw and bleeding fingers!
I know you positioned your frames temporarily, but the fourth last frame is facing the opposite direction.
It's something I dread having in the final step, bonding the frame permanently to the keel...:eek:
 
You are making such good progress Lawrence! Give your fingers a break my friend!

Hello Johan, Gosh but you are correct and also have very sharp eyes. I do not believe that gluing the frames to the keel will be all that much trouble, that is if one takes ones time and double check before time. Dry fitting I just got a bit careless in this dry fitting era. My fingers are not bleeding but very dry with little cracks running up from my thumbs nails, have applied some ointment and giving them a rest today and they are a lot better, but I believe that I will take another day of rest and paint some more cargo for my Oliver Cromwell build.

Heinrich, Thank you for your very kind words. Yes I will give my fingers another break tomorrow, that is rather hard as building YQ-Bluenose frames is almost addict-able but also enjoyable at the same time.

Hi Lawrence. A very nice next fit of this 8-frames part. And yes, going to the stern, she is showing her lines more and more.

Hello Peter, I thank you very much for your very nice words. Yes the next set of 8 frames will have her looking even better. But it will have to wait another day to give my fingers a chance to tough-en up a bit more.

Building frames or, for that matter, just building is addictive indeed: I suffered severely from withdrawal symptoms during our holiday and can't wait to get started again.

Hello Ship Mates, Well after an hectic week the little fellows and I have finally got the next set of eight frames built, de-charred, tapered, sanded and dry fitted. Between our sour fingers, painting the cargo for our Oliver Cromwell build. And to top that all off we have had two snow storm that left 6" + or 15cm+ and also 4"+ or 10cm+ behind that required snow blowing of our walks and driveway. We are having a large willow tree in our back yard removed later in the week. The tree cutter gave me a much better price if I removed the snow from the work area. That was no big deal but we had a burn barrow sitting on 3 bricks. Last week I removed the barrow and one of the bricks the other 2 were froze in so I cleaned the snow around these. On Thursday in my hast I forgot about these and my snow blower found one that resulted in two cut shear pins, so I replaced these and then again on Sunday I had to clean the area again and I looked for the third brick but could not locate it, In recleaning the work area my snow blower low and behold found the third brick and again resulting in two more sheet pins cut off. One was replaced easily but the second would not move what so ever and I ended up haven to drill it out, not at all a lot of fun.

Hello Peter, Thanks for your very kind words. Yes always seams like there is lots to do around our home. I do like to use our snow blower but breaking the sheer pins is no fun to replace. Have not broken any in over 4 years so they were well rusted and hard to replace.

Hello Ship Mates, Today we have completed building the frames for our YQ Bluenose, We have also added the two stern extension's. So in looking over our build it looks like we are about to start gluing in the frames to the ships keel and also the building jig. This should give my sour fingers a chance to toughen up just a bit.
