My first model - caravel "La Niña" 1:72 scratch [COMPLETED BUILD]

Привіт. Як для першої моделі виглядає чудово! Як на мене, то я б замінив білі нитки на щось більш темніше і трьохстрендове. Ну то вже в наступній моделі ;)
Hello. As for the first model, it looks great! As for me, I would replace the white threads with something darker and three-stranded. Well, already in the next model ;)

Привіт! Дякую за зауваження:-). На цій моделі я використовував синтетичні нитки, щоб потім не було проблем з ворсом, але у них дійсно є мінус - надто блискучі та світлі. Для наступних моделей спробую знайти щось більш підходяще.
Hello! Thanks for your comments :-). On this model, I used synthetic threads so that later there would be no problems with the pile, but they really have a downside - they are too shiny and bright. I will try to find something more suitable for the following models.

Due to my new job, my free time has decreased, but I have done something. Now I am sewing sails - here is a sail for a mizzen mast.Of course, not perfect, but so far the best result :)IMG_20240702_070831.jpgIMG_20240702_070850.jpgAnd here is the sail on the bonaverture mast. I sewed this sail first, so there are some mistakes. To be honest, I don’t like this sail, and maybe I’ll make a new one and throw this one away.IMG_20240627_183159.jpgIMG_20240627_183140.jpgBy the way, these two sails are not completely ready yet. Later, I will sew ropes along the edges and also form loops.

Hi Dave, I'm just now getting to see your beautiful LaNina. I especially like her hull! You are a natural at this hobby. By the way at your suggestion, I am enjoying Jack London's 'The Sea-Wolf', wow tough times for tough men!

Daniel, thanks for stopping by :-). I knew that you should like Jack London's book)) he writes very interestingly and realistically because he himself went through the harsh conditions that he describes.

They are very beautiful sails, I hope that one day I will be able to sew sails that are even remotely as beautiful as this since I have zero experience and have never worked with a sewing machine.
Tobias, even if I managed to sew more or less tolerable sails, then all the more you can get a decent result, I’m sure of it. Why, I suspect that with your care and precision, your future sails will be much better than mine, which, by the way, are far from ideal - for example, pay attention to the luff of each sail - despite my efforts, they turned out poorly.

Dave your sails look just fine. I think sails are perhaps the hardest item on a model to produce. For one thing they just don't lend themselves to being scaled down properly. Puckering is a problem most everyone has to deal with because of the sewing pressure required on all the seams and the bolt rope is really tough to attach.

Thanks Daniel. Yes, I couldn’t avoid puckering between the seams, unfortunately. This may be because the sewing machine is not set up correctly. Or I don't have much experience. But sewing without puckering is quite possible - for example, the sails that Oleg Sergin sewed for another modeler (Oleg, by the way, sews sails to order).DSC_0098.JPGDSC_0099.JPG

To avoid wrinkles, you need to put paper under the fabric. Then carefully remove it

I did this on purpose, with the expectation that over time they would fade and become lighter. But if this doesn’t happen, I won’t be upset - I like this color too :)
Way to go Dave. Lovely sails. I agree the stain came out perfectly and will look so good on your ship. Cheers Grant
