Nikitin San Bartolome 1584 A.D. (Kit #35)

Great job. What number of paint did you use?
I decided to use the Mahogany #7034 as the base layer and the #320 sponge sandpaper for my first try. I'm going to use the Oak stain on the decks and I'm hoping for a little of contrast between the bulkheads, deck and other deck furniture.

Airbrushing 101.

I don’t think I‘m going to get an “A” in the airbrushing class.

Two passes applying the Patina.

After sanding between applications what is left looks too dark to me. I don’t know if a light application of “Oak” stain will “lighten “ the Patina base.

On the other hand I like my “worn out, beat up” look on these bulkheads.

I realize that airbrushing is an “art” but since I intensely dislike painting, I’ll be glad to be done with this bit.

Bulkheads are AWESOME!
Thanks Paul, I like the looks of them. I have a couple more to do. The decks are not going well. I need to ”paint” the main deck to be able to install the curved bulkhead. Right now it’s off to make the second pass on the driveway. It’s been snowing here since very early this morning and is forecast to continue into tomorrow morning.

I have never airbrushed either, but I think those look amazing! I don't know what I will do when I start this model... have to see.

Good morning Jan. Those bulkheads look like you are a master airbrusher. They are outstanding. I love the effect you achieved.

I don’t know if you can do anything about it, however I agree with you re the darkness of the deck. I also like the “weathered” effect of the deck tho. Cheers Grant

Hi, it seems like a great job, to be the first job with airbrush just congratulations. What number of paint did you use? Is the patina shiny? What number does it correspond to? Thank you and good continuation

Hi Grant,

The process continues, a little more aggressive sanding on the two decks decreased the darkness.I’m going to try the same method on piece of scrap and then use a diluted mixture of Oak stain to get a better color. Definitely going to be one of a kind, AKA as “Jan’s Galleon “.

The Patina in the paint kit is #PN 1/900. After brushing it on I lighted sanded with the supplied #240 and #320 sandpaper. The amount of sanding depends on what base color you want to start with before you overspray with any of the other stains.
