Nikitin San Bartolome 1584 A.D. (Kit #35)

Still experimenting with the plank alignment around the gun port.

Four .8mm thick pieces sandwiched between the planks seems to be the answer. The overall fit of the planks now looks pretty good. I think once everything is glued, sanded and painted the ”fix” will blend in.

BTW. I did try the other suggested solutions, shifting and cutting new planks, etc. Those efforts resulted in big donations to the “Bad Word” jar.

Okie - Dokie. A couple of little mistakes here and there, but I think I have the general shape.

I now need to figure out how sand all of this planking to shape, lots of edges to “trim”.

Good morning Jan. That is a hectic stern. It’s looking ready to make pretty. I think you are going to have to be very patient and “gentle “ with your trimming and sanding. No Grant “hacking” here. I also think some custom designed sanding sticks and blocks will also do the trick. That was quite a task successfully pulled off. Cheers Grant

Indeed, I’m going to be very, very, very careful with the trimming process. Watching Pavel’s video is a great help, but he does it in less than a minute.

It took a lot longer than Pavel’s video. A combination of hand sanding, filing, Dremel grinding drum and holding my breath worked out to get this result. Probably it will need adjustments here and there when I plank the hull.

The real sawdust cloud begins in the morning when I start fairing the hull.

Good morning Jan. Starting to look awesome. I still cannot get over the shape of her….One crazy ship. Cheers Grant

Good afternoon Jan, i missed a couple of weeks, and had to catch up a bit, but your 3D jig-saw puzzle is starting to look great
Hi Peter.

Yup the puzzle is starting to get complicated. The first plank or wale ( three pieces laminated) is the next hurdle.

The plan.

So it’s off to watch Pavel’s video, once, maybe twice, maybe three times …..and then …

Than you for stopping by and also for that piece of information. All the San Bartolome videos are a great source of assembly information.

Mother Nature is interfering with my shipbuilding time. The weather has been crazy, temperatures in the 70's most of the week, Daffodils, Tulips and other plants are blossoming early , so all the gardens needed to be cleaned up. BUT..... I did manage to find time here and there to sand, file, fit, sand, file, finally glue the base for the Main Wale (the first of three peces that fit on top of each other) in position.

The clamps that Pavel provides with the kit work great.
