NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

Can anyone guess who woke up and demanded a seat on his throne? ROTF
So the good servant I am, I got busy with his request…

There is going to be a scroll at the top of the piece I am making now, it will join the same piece on the port side and sit at the top of the keel behind the Lion…looking forward to that. ;)
Good morning Dean. Man we have been waiting a long time for the Lion to come out of his cage. He must be very chuffed. And Deans NL roars again. Beautiful ! Cheers Grant

I touched up the paint and started painting the gold on the edges. I am undecided about whether to paint the entire surface gold like in the rest of the ship. I may have to put the other ones on first before deciding. Opinions welcome.
It will also start to look better once I put the board with hawse holes in it on the bow, because it is black too.
Here it is for now…

Good morning Dean. I like the edges just gold it looks refined. I get your indecision tho as the edges are thin. Your call(as always) but if you stand back do those thin edges stand out enough? Answering your question with a question.;). No helpROTF. Cheers Grant

Thank you Grant, that is a good point, can you see them from a distance. ;)

With the Lion in it's rightful place, there's not going to be a peaceful moment until completion...
Poor Dean.

I think the gold needs substance, right now it seems unbalanced with the Lion.
Thank you for the input Johan! That same thought came to me initially....balance!
But once all of the railings are on, and they all have gold borders, then I think we will see balance. If they are all solid gold, they may overpower the Lion?
So I still want the Lion to be the focal point. So I think I will decide once all rails are on. It would be easy to add gold in the middle of the rails, the hard part is the edge painting! ;)

This one was fun to make…

The edge against the hull has to be curved and beveled as shown above…

The edge against the keel has to be curved upwards and angled inwards, with the top being no thicker the Lions foot…as shown above…

Above it is shown painted.

Now on the ship, I also added the board with the hawse holes for the anchor ropes…

In conclusion, I feel like the black and gold makes it hard to see the profiling I did on the boards. I am starting to lean towards all gold with a wash to bring out the profile…;)

Fair point.
Your example show the rails to be similarly painted as your current rail. Once all rails are done, the balance might be restored,
.

Definitely better all gold! I think it actually lessens the tendency to overtake the figurehead, helps to kind of “point to it”? With the added benefit of seeing the awesome railing details!

Thank you Lou! It was a hard decision, but in the end, I agree this is the way to go. ;)
