That's some nice looking planking! Pear between the wales?
I'll be (tentatively) using box and holly - will be watching your builds for inspiration!Hi Paul,
yes I used a strip of pear here. I thought long and hard about making it black like Ricci did with his Amarante. However, I have decided against sticking more to GD's template.
Dear TobiasGood evening,
thank you all for your feedback all comments and likes. I've been thinking a little about the upcoming planking and their coloring. Since I'm not into color, I want to do it with wood, i.e. the yellow in the upper area I want to use boxwood. Here is an example of how I imagine it.

The upper planking in boxwood is looking very good - I like it very much.
The plank between the two wales in pear - to be honest, I do not like it so much.
For me it should be also black, also because you will nail it in the same way like the wales
I like it more like made by Gianpiero Ricci

But this subjective taste - you are the master of your model
Good point - definitely this plank was thick stuff material in the same strength like the wales - but it was "planking"I think you have two options for the plank between the wales: boxwood or black. Why should thy have used another color or wood?
I am not sure if the two wales are correct for the period. I do not know, when the wide wale timbers were introduced.
The middle plank is narrower by half, so not as thick as the whales, should you address this thick.Good point - definitely this plank was thick stuff material in the same strength like the wales - but it was "planking"
BTW: Following the construction photos of this "niels" model we can see. that he made first the two wales to stabilze the hull, and the plank between much much later
Hello Uwe,Many thanks for the additional information and clarification - than it will be pear!
The green arrow is a ventilation of the frames, or? , so tha last "row" of inner planking is not going up to the deck.....
It is great, that Gerard is answering and clarify details ....
