We have been having some nice days intermixed with some cold days and some very windy days. A couple of weeks ago we had several days that didn't get above freezing.

I could sand outside but it would involve moving everything needed outside which, to be frank, I just don't feel like doing. Not when I have another ship to work on.

Good news and bad news. Covid visited my house and hit me pretty hard. Once I got over the worst of it I did manage some time in the shipyard. I finished sanding the hull. Initial sanding was 80#, then 150#. Wetted to raise grain then 220#. The 80# took the longest getting everything even.

Then I installed the davits. The rudders will later be attached to these. The instructions called for nails to be used but I opted to use wood dowels.

Next I installed the stringers then the fore and aft decks.

All wood is sanded prior to installing with PVA glue.

Beautiful work Glenn - everything looks super neat! I am sorry to hear about the Covid - but equally glad that you are better now. Out of nowhere, Covid is also a real issue in China once more.

I’m glad you’re feeling better now, Glenn. It’s looking really good. I’ve opted to try the ca on this model. I hope my results are anywhere near as good as yours.

Work continues. Installed trim pieces where decks meet boat sides.

Next installed false keel on outer hull. Began by gluing at stern working towards bow.

The last photo shows the cut water on the bow. I failed to take any photos of this when I built it. Scott covers it well in his manual.

Once the false keel was attached I shaped it with 80# then smoothed with 150#.

Thanks for the tutorial, Glenn! So far, I've only gotten six planks on. On more to go and then the twisting and turning. I hope I can do nearly as well as you did.

It's been my pleasure!

I averaged a couple of hours per plank on mine and felt like I was working as fast as I could. It is simply a time consuming process, one I really came to enjoy once I became familiar with it.

Don't forget the bevels that go along with the twists and turns ;)

I've been both anticipating them and dreading them. I'm lucky if I get one plank a day on. Of course, while the glue is drying, I'm also working on my Soleil Royal. Or maybe it's while the SR is drying, I'm working on the Galilee! Anyway, it's good to see your work. I plan to follow in your footsteps. I don't see much hope in doing anything creative. I guess I could put a cross on the sail, but that might seem a bit kitschy.

Vic, I think you were once willing to put glitter on the sails of another ship... (sorry for the off-topic Glenn but this was low-hanging fruit for me!)
