VOC ship The Prins Willem (scale 1:75) Year 1651

Thanks Ab, you are absolutely right about this point. I mentioned in my post before

I didn't get them in a nice way onto the boltrope. It keeps looking messy. That's why I choose the grommets, they looked the best of all. Yeah I'm ashamed about it, but to small for correct details.
The bigger sails will give me a better try, because of the bigger rope on the sail. Circular cringles are used on modern sails these days. They are placed in the sail.
The next small sail I make, I will try to don't let them look round but oval by sewing them on 2 points first and then the middle point. And the main and fore sail are big enough to give more detail.
Hi Stephan,

I did a visual cheat (scabbed in a short section of rope under the cringle loop which was a direct continuation of the bolt rope):

That's a good solution to look at. Looks not messy at all. I'm gonna try this on my test sail, if possible. the sails are very thin in my case, that's why it is so difficult to glue without mess. Thanks Paul

I changed the "leuvers" a bit. just make them a little more oval.

They are still not what I want, next sail will be different. I leave this one, It's a small sail and with the bare eye it's hard to see.
You can see the reefpoints pointing to everywhere, they are not heat treatment till now. First the robands.

Ashley's shows them in this way 1264. Not the yellow.

I made 3, but I'm gonna look if I can do the seizing better. Don't like it how it's done by me now. The robands are 0,35 mm. and the seizing is 0,23 mm.

Lovely work, Stephan. Could you just seize with thread? It's so small no one will notice you didn't use proper rope.

A joy to see you working on this ship again!
I give that a try Paul, because it's real small and almost not visible when the yard is attached.

For me it's a joy too, even if it's only a few hours.

Hey Stephan,
really nice work. It is very good.
regards
Günther
Good morning Stephan. Fantastic my friend. I love your attention to detail and the redo of the cringes says it all. Now I know how to make a tiny rope grommet….thanks. Cheers Grant
I hope that many members are following your sail making process. It is really nice to see sails that look like.,,,... sails, rather than pieces of burlap with oversized seams and stitching.
Allan
Your sail work is so impressive Stephan. I’ve bookmarked your posts for future reference.
Thanks guys for the nice words, my goal was to show how to make sails from paper and how they will look. Surprice, it came out very good. I like them also, looking realistic. I hope that furling these sails will come out as well too. Like Allan says that details look oversized when made of piece cloth. I got that problem too. There are some cloth that look good, bud hard to get, seaming them is still hard to do.

Hey Steffen,

I'm really impressed by your sails. I want to build my Athena in the same scale as you are building the Prinz Willem. That's why I like your sails so much, because they don't look bulky and fit very well in the 1/75 scale. I am looking for a good sail cloth. But what you are doing with the Japanese paper looks great! Respect. :D Thumbsup

Cheers

Thanks Günther, if you can't find the correct paper in Germany you can try DeKwast.nl they have big pieces kashmir.
They just asked 7,99 for sending to Germany.
The paint I used was this
118 ml is what you need for 1 set of sails, maybe more. I got 250 ml tubes from another store.
the only difficult part is when you paint the paper and take it of your table. The rest is easy. When dry, it is very strong.

Oh wait, the most difficult part is to glue the bolt rope to the sail.
