Saint-Philippe 1693-POF to the Monograph by Jean-Claude Lemineur by NMBrook-1/36

I have spent several hours carving and the pics show the results. It is a few years since I did the carvings on Sovereign and need to get back 'into it'.I am not even attempting the bunches of grapes yet until I get back in the zone.As always the camera can be your own worst enemy and I feel the results do look better in real life than in the last picture.
The concentration level is extremely high and feel I shall continue on with the framing and restrict work on the item to just a few hours a week.

Kind Regards

Great work Nigel. I totaly recognize what you say about taking pictures. I sometimes make pictures to correct my carvings, especially small faces. In pictures you see things that are invisible with the bare eye.

Thanks guys

I will do a step by step when I continue with the carving.A combination of three different burrs were used in the Proxxon rotary tool.I feel the item is ridiculously fragile and was mindful not to use anything that would put any lateral force in it.
I know Janos swears by the micromotor for carving, however due to various conditions I have from working in heavy industry for many years,I need to use two hands whenever possible. It was the diagnosis of these conditions that lead to my sabbatical from the work on Sovereign.Things are a little better now I no longer use vibrating tools at work.

And you have to make the procedure also from the other side, or?
Take a break - and drink a coffee in between, or better some tea with baldrian / valerian

Yes Uwe,the item is 3mm thick and carved on both sides, mirror image.I have seen this done with two pieces laminated together however it seems to me that that is making it more complex in that both profiles have to align perfectly.

Time for a cnc machine?
This will also be handy for all the French Lillies on the sides

Yes it is something to ponder in the future given the hundred or more identical Fleur de Lis on the hull topsides.Cnc Proxxon MF70 might be the tool to use

Have a look at stepcraft, a nice german portal router system, can also use it for laser, printing etc. Very nice systems, still considering to start with this.

Thankyou for your kind comments.
55 frames OliverROTFThere are 9 frame drawings and this assembly is one of them. That is why I gave a ballpark figure of two years for the frames.Had it not been for all the mortices,I think it would be more like 6 months.However.the joints do add a great deal to the build aesthetically.Best bit is that all the internal rider frames are morticed just the same as you will see in my next posts.
